I LOVE this album, but something always bothered me... the top end of the guitar tone. It's scrtachy and really harsh. Anyone have any info on the recording process? I know Matheos is a Mesa dude, the tones he's done on Arch/Matheos and later Fates Warning are lush and thick. Could of just been mixed on a poor monitoring system, boosting where things really didn't need it.

I really enjoy listening to the album in full, but find I often get ear fatigue after about 4 songs. What are your opinions on EQing albums? Sometimes I find myself ripping the FLAC and using a EQ to remove the frequences.

They used Scholtz Rockmans on this, as well as on the follow up, No Exit. Amazing album, legendary even. Horrible, horrible guitar tone though.

That makes alot of sense. I guess most folks (Boston, DefLep) would go hard with the post-EQ to get rid of the fizz. Would love to get ahold of the multi-track stems.
