This subject might have been broached before, but being new to the site, I don't know.

I am assuming that given the knowledge about tone I have seen on this site, Audley Freed is no stranger. But for those of you who haven't been acquainted with Audley, I would like to suggest you check out his work with "Cry of Love" .... The second disk "Diamonds and Debris" is IMO a great example of a Bogner XTC 101B in the hands of a truly gifted guitarist. The entire D&D album's overdriven tones were done with an XTC 101B, the cleans were a Fender Tone King and the Leslie was driven by Matchless Chieftain. I remember when Audley started college here, the buzz about some kid from Burgaw (little town 20 miles away) that could really play was instant .... I first saw him play with a band called "Sleeper" .... and have followed his impressive career since .... a truly nice guy and a fantastic player!

so, that's mine ....

Note: The amp Audley used was Stu's owner of "Fat Sound Guitars" in Carry NC. (where the picture was taken)

GREAT topic!!! (I'll definitely check out Audley...)

For me, it's got to be Injected's debut/self titled album.

"When She Comes", "Burn it Black", "Lights are Low", "Faithless". Great, great simple, stripped down, balls out rock album. Most of the tracks are a blend of a Shiva and an XTC 101B.

This is the album that finally convinced me to pony up and buy a Shiva.

Yo Nick....you beat me to the punch! That Injected album totally rips, and is classic Bogner tone to the T. Some of my favorite guitar tones on any record. You can really distinctly pick out the Shiva and XTC tone.

On a side note, I also have the 12 or so demo tracks of their unreleased 2nd record that never came out. I like it even better than the self-titled record.

Well, you two beat me to it...Injected's 'Burn it Black' is what spurred me on to buy a 101b back in the day. I have to agree - one of favorite albums for guitar tone, hands down....and yes, the 2nd record is really good...I've always been a big fan of Cantrell, too, so it's no wonder I was drawn to Bogner. Oh and Soundgarden's 'Superunknown' had some great guitar tone on it as well.

I vote for:

Alice in Chains "Dirt"

George Lynch "Sacred Groove" (ecstasy 100B proto I think)

I didn't know Superunknown had an Ecstasy? was it a 100b?

LOVE diamonds & debris too--did not know that was an Ecstasy!

That Injected album is just the epitome of Bogner "woody chewi-ness".

This live recording sounds SO close to the album. I love watching this. Too bad the other guitar player seems to be playing a non-bogner.

apparently it was the same that steve vai and jerry cantrell used at studio
some claim it was a 100B, others claim it was a 100A
I don't think it was the only amp on that album, since they were switching from marshall JCM's and peavey VTM's to dual rectos

Steve Vai was using a Bogner xtc and Egnater TOL Mica. The eggy sat on top of the Bogner. Thats how I got into Egnater.

that was before the legacy
that's why people insist to call the legacy as "poor man's bogner", although it sounds nothing like one and has a completely different circuit from any other amp in every aspect

Steve vai actually used only a carvin (cant remember the model) on blue powder

Nick, is the Burn it Black album you speak of? That video you posted sounds killer...great rhythm tone sbut then he hits the solo and it sounds thin and weak. Maybe it is his settings.

Never knew Lynch used a Bogner. I don't think he has since. I read Dirt was mostly a Mesa Dual Rectifier.

If Jerry really used the XTC throughout the Bogy Depot record...I mush prefer that tone over the Shiva on Degradation Trip. I also prefer what I hear on Dirt and Lynch's Sacred Groove.

I am starting to think if I might really like a late 90s XTC before they made them too gainy according to Reinhold.

Get an XTC and then add the Marvel mod and you will have all three versions of the XTC.

Marvel mod....please explain? :)

Can you do this on a late 90s XTC?
