Wondering what people around here prefer for KT88 tubes? $200 and less, preferably less. Only ones I have tried are the Sovtek, they seem great but wondering if there is something better for my Ultra Lead. Fryette recommends and ships with these.

Two of my friends suggest this place for getting tubes; http://valvequeen.com/. Those friends are pretty known for knowing their stuff. ;)

As far as recommendations for which tube types, I'm researching the same. I have read, and heard good things about about the Winged C tubes.

As far as trying to finding good tubes for under $200, I'm sure you can find good deals, but I would put only the best I could find, or the best for the tone I'm trying to get. Even if it cost a bit, I wouldn't mess around with anything less.

If you want the best price, tube depot is the place to buy tubes.

I have had good luck with the Electro-harmoniz KT88EH and have used the Sovtek as well. I have heard great things about the Winged C tubes, but haven't tried them.

Gold Lion KT88's here, nothing else comes close. But you pay for them though so it does not meet your $200 maximum

SED KT88's and Penta Labs KT88's are the best hands down. Both have the highest plate dissipation rating and are very robust and tight. They also are the clearest sounding.

They also are the most expensive as well

I see that, their prices are just a little better than most.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, if anyone is looking for a good deal Apex surplus on ebay has 5 quads of matched Sovtek KT88's for $65 plus $11 shipping. I bought a quad of them from them back in May and they were perfectly matched. Real good deals from this company. Just bought a quad of Winged C el34's from them earlier this week for a great price as well.

Nothing I've tried touches the winged C's but they are crazy expensive now. Valve Art's are a good option as well as the Rubies, pretty sure they both come from the same factory.

Not a big fan of the Tube Depot, I've gotten 2 really mismatched sets from them in the past that caused hum. Don't know if it's their burn in procedure or what but if you want a dead on matched set go with the Valve Queen.
