Feeling uninspired in music stores

Hello all.
I am trying to break out of a rut. Lately I walk in to all my favorite and unfavorite music stores and look around, and I am gone in a minute. Nothing inspires me lately. Not any guitars, no new amps, no effects, not even any cool used gear,no accessories. I have been to my local Massachusetts and Rhode Island GC's, Daddy's, Boston Guitar Works in Brockton (which does have some killer gear). I have been online and looked at all the new stuff coming out I have learned about from this site and others.
I am really satisfied with the gear I have now, I mean, really satisfied. In the last couple of years I have sold off all the impulse buys to fuel the purchases of some real quality gear. I am now left with some equipment to cover a lot of tone bases, and cover those bases extremely well. From my top 40 cover band, to my incessant need for teh brOOtal, to my experimental stuff, to my rock and roll, I can get the tones I hear in my head.
I guess my question is , is there any piece of gear out there that is currently BLOWING YOUR MIND?
Assfacerules is searching, and you can help.

Krank RevJR Pro! Coming in June, 2 channel, footswitch, you can buy the head without a cab. And I still want a Chadwick for the clean channel. And they got a new pedal coming but I'm not allowed to say what it is........

a few things. if you're talking about larger dollars, then definitely caparison guitars, but if you had lesser things in mind, then bareknuckle pickups, mxr gt-od pedal and subdecay liquid sunshine class A overdrive pedal

If your happy with your sound and your gear, then why the need to spend money aimlessly?
sounds like your quest for tone is done, congratulations
now its time for clips

I am going to edit this for another point
I know I am the last person to be critical of being a gear-a-holic, I own wayyyyyyyyy to much stuff, but for me its a collection. when I am out looking at gear, its not in the wistful search for my sound, I have that, its for the obscure, odd or distinct bit that I would love to add to my collection or would be a cool addition on stage. Maybe now that you have found your tone, you need to change the focus of your search.

I hate Guitarget, I mean guitar center, they suck, at least the few in oregon I have been too, if you ask me they are an entry level music store, sure they have some nice Les pauls and some prs, fender but other then that I think they suck, I have been in those stores and the service sucks ,most the time I have to fill in the salesmen,
I especially like when I'm in there to spend real money and the salesman is wasting his time with some kid trying to sell him a guitar cable or strings, while i stand there with $1000.00 in my pocket. I bought a 2001 fender American deluxe strat from them, I had to get my tweed case for it somewhere else, because all they had were knock off cases, unfortunately they have driven most of your local music stores out of business, but if I need a guitar, an amp, cable, picks, strings, and a tuner all in one packager for $99.00 thats your store, I hate Guitarget I mean guitar center

A big +1

My latest (and possibly LAST) venture to GC was on the friday before Christmas. I had $1K in bonus cashish in my pocket, and they had a very used 1960ax that I wanted. Of course it was tagged at like $1100 or something on the floor :jerkit: But I figured we could agree to prolly $600 to $700 OTD.

Well, between the attention being paid to all of the solid state crate wankers, I couldn't even find a salesman to grab me a speaker cable, and none of the half-stacks on the floor were hooked up either

When I finally did find someone, they informed me that the cab was really great because it had "green - black" speakers in it. I really did want to try it, but I couldn't at that point

Well then Rig-Talk and any other online gear forum are the last places you need to be. Run, don't walk. Keep out. Play your gear and enjoy the playing aspect of it. That's what it's supposed to be all about anyway. Honestly, these places will warp your mind and make you sick in the head

my gear collection pwns any local store around here.

seriously, I'm like the "Pappy's music store" of Indiana.

I've learned to live with it.

QFT - I have acquired way more gear in the past year than I have in my whole time playing guitar because of these forums. Its a drug, at least my tone doesnt suck anymore, or at least I dont think it does

You need a PRS :poke:

I played a show tonight and everyone said my tone was killer. I was very happy to say the least. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a modded Marshall 2203, the jmp master volume. Sure it's a bit of a one trick pony but that one trick is nice. No boosts or anything, just straight in. I find the modern amps with all bells and whistles to be too much. And too much money. If you like your tone, fuck it stay with it. Or find yourself and old Marshall and make it your own.

And the Guitar Center, they suck too. I go to Sam Ash, mostly because it not Guitar Center. The manger is real cool and remembers me ever time I go in. They don't have uber pro stuff but if you order something and you don't have to pay all up front like guitar center, and if you don't like it you can return it. GC has no returns on special orders. Bullshit!!

That's my rant on tone, expensive gas, and GC.

Hey whats the mod in your JMP?

It's a high gain mod. An extra preamp tube and an fx loop. Probably some other stuff too. But none of the bass boosts or anything like that. Simple really. I don't use the loop becasue it changes the tone a bit. It was done by Bogner way back in the day. It sounds killer, not fizzy like the Jose mod can sound. The friend I bought it from sold it to me for 800 including the Jubillee cab. I had to promise if I ever sold it, it would be back to him at a friend price of course. NEVER SELLING IT.

Haha i can imagine!! I know of a couple people who have some old Marshalls (Plexis and JMP mastervolumes) with Bogner mods and they love those amps!!!

Yup... Retailers have to contend with manufacturers expecting a certain amount of store 'space' devoted to their products, so the big boys tend to get all the room... Big boys usually being whoever is hot at that time, whoever they carry...
Retailers are only going to put out what they 'think' will move within a particular line, so more often youre gonna get mid level shit that's being pandered to a different age group/pocketbook.
Most of the guys on this forum have done their homework in one form or another, and the 'sound in your head' youve been after far exceeds whats typically available in the average store. Very few stores can afford to take up space with 'boutique' lines, so you typically 'get what you get'. How many $5000 Custom shop Jacksons can you afford to keep on the wall for public perusal??!? :hys: It's gone the way of the local hardware store getting its ass kicked by Home Depot. Anyone who wants to make a buck has to carry WHAT THEY CAN AFFORD in a particular line. Nah, youre lookin for inspiratation in a local store??!? 4get it.
