A friend of mine recently picked one of these up -

A Fender 57 Custom Champ Handwired 1x8 combo.

I am glad he did, because I could not push myself to put that out for a combo with an 8" speaker.

That being said, I had a lot of fun playing this amp! I swapped between several different guitars that were available: a 2001 LP studio with stock Gibson 490/498, a Sire with Planet Tone P90 1956 hots, An Epi with Planet Tone P90 1956, a Tele with Planet Tone 1955 hots.

They all had their own thing going on but to be honest, something special was going on with the Tele into it and then the P90s. The Gibson is normally my favorite set due to just how hard hitting and loud Gibson pickups are in general, but man, those more vintage sets were playing really well.
I was surprised at how hot the P90s were in the 'hot' set, they were comparable to loud humbuckers. Surprisingly full. The bridge pickup in that set is really awesome.

Back to the amp. The 8" speaker was surprisingly full and fun to play with.

I DID run the amp on full and used the guitar vol/tone to dial in the sound in the end and it was awesome! I am not sure if everything is stock in that one, as he got it used.

I found it to.ve a bit small sounding at lower volumes but I mean, it's a small speaker.

Yeah it's only 5w as well but tube watts are still loud!

If this had a bigger speaker or I just ran it out to a separate cab, I could see it filling up a room.

I had a lot of fun playing this little amp and it has a lot of mojo and character. If you get a chance to try one, crank it up and give it a go!
