Anyone have one of these amps?
If so, have you tried different pre and power tubes that you think sound better than the stock glass?

I played a Twin, 65 Deluxe, and the 68 Custom and really like the 68 of the three.
The reduced negative feedback really works great in this amp. The sensitivity and easy quick feel is definitely noticeable.
The Bassman tone stack in the first channel is super sweet and it LOVES a good distortion pedal.
Tried it with a Bogner Ecstasy Red and the tone was stellar.
Plus, you get reverb and tremo on both channels. Great and useful design feature.
Interestingly the 68 is made in Mexico while the 65 is made in the US.
Price difference is only $100 more for the 65.

So good I ordered one today from GC online.
I got a smokin deal, GC beat a zzounds offer and gave me 20% off of retail.
Could not pass that up. :)
The Fender Hot Rod DLX3 is going back, no need to have both.

I have played several of them and was always blown away with the tones. These actually sound better than the "real" 1960's Deluxes I have owned. You did well to order the 68 as it buries the 65 when you set them side by side and play them head to head. Just fantastic sounding clean amps!!!

How do you like the V-type speaker on that one?

I only played the 68 for about a hour at GC a couple of weeks ago, but compared to the Twin and 65 DRRI I preferred the 68 overall and the speaker sounded great to me. I think it would also sound good with a brighter Jensen, but it's easily changeable, or get a couple of smaller 1x12 cabs with different speakers for variety. :)

I'll know more when I get it and spend some time with it.
I've got a 2x12 with V30's so it'll be interesting to hear differences between the "V type" OEM speaker and the V30's.
I'm thinking of getting a nice brighter Jensen and pair it up with one of the V30's in the 2x12 as an optional set up for when I feel like it.
And, I'm thinking of going a kind of switch where I can turn either speaker on/off and use one at a time or both.
Still working it out in my head. I need to draw it out and get the impedance's right. :)

From the clips I have heard, the '68 Custom Deluxe reverb seems much more suited to rock than the the '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue. Makes me want to add a negative feedback control to my '69 Fender Bandmaster Reverb.

Can you tell me the differences between the HRD III and the Custom 68?? These are 2 amps I"m considering as well.
