Anybody played the Highway 1 Strat? I need a Strat for a project I have happening and I'm thinking of grabbing one.

Hey Jerry

not sure why a strat, r u looking for a single coil sound on the cheap?
layering parts?
(if thats it, then I think a tele would fit into the mix with layers much better)
the Hwy 1s are ok for the dough, but you can pick up a few other super strats (like an i9, or a G & L) that I think will out play it and have better tone.
I would even go with a carvin bolt before a fender hwy 1, but thats jmo

i've liked the Highway 1's i've picked up and played.

+1

There are better out there, if memory serves me correctly aren't the H1 series guitars the same as the MIM just assembled here instead of Mexico???? I thought I remembered one of the reps telling me about them.

anyways, Yea I think there are better out there for the cash, but if thats what your after, go for it, their not bad, the ones I've played anyway, but thats been a few years ago. so take it for what its worth.

it's the other way around - assembled in Mexico with US-parts ;)

well, ignore this if it's too obvious, but the general idea is that the "good quality us parts" are shipped to mexico and put together where the labour costs are lower. Fender basically offers "the good quality for less money".

i personally think that the building quality is as important as the quality of the parts, but that's another story :dunno:

I bought one. I need a Strat for a modern country project I'm involved in. I was going to build my own, but for the money the HW1 looked pretty sweet. I wanted the vintage trem (not the American Standard 2 point trem), the big 70's headstock, alder body, rosewood neck. I could give a shit about the electronics, if the electronics suck I'll pull them out and put in some Duncans and one of Dawk's master tone circuits like Blackmore used. Where it's made really means nothing to me.

I've played a couple that were pretty cool and a couple that were dead. But I dig the big headstock!
