Been looking at LP's the past few days.
Don't seem to get a lot of Gibson for $1500, so I'm looking at other LP's

I like the guitar, the scale length, the shape and feel. Have had a LP in the past, 78 or so. But damn the newer ones are ugly. Brass nut, the LP logo looks like it was designed by a 3 year old. So I been looking at FGN and Edwards LP's

The FNG's seem to be pretty damn good as far as fit and finish, which is a big one for me. I'm still entertaining Gibsons, but haven't seen anything that really caught my eye, and probably because I need another $1000 or so to get a decent one that isn't all banged up.

Wondering what you guys think of the Edwards and FGN LPs

Here's a few FGN's. It's like a Gibson, but without all the mistakes

Nut work looks like it was done by someone that actually gives a shit.

But then there's this

Edwards_Les_Paul_Sykes_002.jpg

I just got one of those Edwards sykes and it blew my mind how good it is. I own a 2013 Gibson and it completely blows it out of the water in every aspect, finish and playability. I'd check one out if you could.

Guy named Dooredge here is selling two of the Edwards...Hipshot Tuners and BKPs. He's a good dude, check em out. Edwards are monster guitars. Never played an FGN.

I just got rid of my Chinese Tokai LPC :D with the thought of getting a Gibson/Edwards/FGN LP standard (might entertain an ESP Eclipse I CTM as well) before the year ends...

So if anyone would have any insight in the op's price range of any of the LP shaped guitars above, would be most appreciated!

!

It's hard to find a decent LP in your price range unless you find a good early 90s LP. Even the Studios during this period were pretty awesome guitars.

If you're looking for a guitar that has the same aesthetics as an LPC, I would say Edwards is up there, but I'd be searching for a Greco or Orville LPC. After all the hardware upgrades and pickup upgrades, you still have the differences in the finishes. Most budget LPs (Epiphone, ESP, Edwards, Agile, ect.) have poly finishes instead of the Nitro finishes. For me, this is a big deal because most poly finishes make the guitar sound more "plasticy" and the guitar loses some of the "meat" and "woodiness" of its tone. For guitarists that are looking for a darker tone, this might be perfect though...

I own many Gibson LP's. Th Edwards JS that I have is every bit as good as the Gibsons.

You can find a lot of sweet Gibson LP's in the $1500 range. Edwards are nice but if it were my $1500 I'd look for a used Traditional plus or Standard.

Heritage also makes a good LP too.

Here's my UGLY Newer LP's (2012, 2008, 2009) They all overpriced, play like shit, sound like shit. are tone dead pieces of shit   I want more of this kinda shit :D

I've got two Edwards LP's and an Edwards V, and I love them all. Great guitars, and a lot of bang for the buck. Do not hesitate to try one out.

Hey Paul! I dig me some LP's! I actually prefer that the Edwards' aren't nitro. I know that nitro sounds great, but I don't like the stickyness. And honestly, the three poly Edwards' that I have sound great. I also dig how inexpensive they are. I prefer to save the big money for amps. ;)

Dude, my condolences, those are hideous. :D

I would probably look at used Standards, Classics or Traditional Pros if I was going to spend 1500. IMO.

Never heard of FGN. But for $1500 should be able to find a used Gibson without much problem.

If you can go a little higher it'd up your LP game a tad...I snagged an '89 Custom for under 2k a little while back.

I'm seriously considering this option hehe.

With me the thing is I would have to buy Edwards and/or FGN untested. Would not be able to try before I buy. So I figure I'll try to be patient and grow my budget to be able to test the guitar I'm buying ;)

So you buy a used one at a fair price, and if you don't dig it, you flip it.

True too! A big part of the fun LOL :D as well.

a while back I was on a search for a les paul. I checked my local CL, and went and played 30 or 40 over a couple months or so. I had close to 3 grand to spend. On a whim, there was a Traditional Plus on the way home from one of the guitars I was looking at. The pups were replaced with Wolfetones and this guitar was amazing. It played really well, sounded MAGNIFICENT, and blew all the much more expensive LES PAULS out of the water!! Those Wolfetone pups that came with it are great, with high gain, low gain, or totally clean tones they sound great. I know I got lucky with this guitar, but there are deals out there if you are patient. I have had to force myself to be patient recently and it pays off. Wait until you find the right guitar at the right price for you.

I bought an Edwards off evilBay about a year ago. $800. Absolutely love it. Great freaking guitar. I stuck an EMG 57/66 set in it cause I'm a EMG honk. I love this guitar though. Highly recommend Edwards.
