Got my KSR Ares today. I got this to replace the Orthos that I sold in a moment of weakness.

I know the Orthos is supposed to be an Ares with a clean channel but I gotta say I'm digging the Ares more. I always boosted my Orthos but after plugging in to the Ares I didn't feel like it needed anything. Super low noise floor and surprisingly loud. Kyle makes good stuff. Anyway this was the last amp I had on order for the year and will probably be the last one for awhile. After getting the Quad Cortex my G.A.S. for amps is non existent. Between my Mark IV, Ares, and Skeleton Key there isn't anything I feel I'm missing. Maybe this coming year I can worry more on playing than buying.

Nice score, those are killer amps. I always plugged straight into mine, no boost necessary.

Kyle...one of the guys I love in this industry!

Know you've been waiting on this for a while...Congrats!

I boosted the one I had, no surprise there right...LOL, and thought it was meaner than a dog shittin tacks.

Good luck on settling down a while, I wish I could shake the disease. If my wife had a dollar for every time I said that, she's have about 40 bucks....LOL!

Congrats! Single channel amps always sound better than the same amp with a clean added. To me anyway.

I think you are right. Between the Skeleton Key and the Ares they both don't need a boost or a noise gate. My Mark IV doesn't need a boost but I prefer it with one and once I do that it definitely needs a noise gate.
