I just finished a recording I've been working on for awhile. I have the el' cheapo recording setup at home (Reaper) but am learning new tricks with every song I do. Like I've mentioned before, I'm not really a singer but enjoy having vocals on my songs instead of just doing instrumentals.

For the guitar parts I used my custom JW Van guitar thru my Friedman JJ. Jr, using the XLR cab emulated out. I used a Keeley Aria pedal as a boost for the solos as well as a Keeley Caverns Delay pedal. My vocal mic is a cheap Rode mic and use EZDrummer2 and EZMix2. For the bass parts, I used my Fender Jazz Bass into a Sansamp Bass pedal.

Anyway, thanks for giving it a listen. Just like doing this crap for fun.

Thanks dude!! It is really weird that when I start a song, I have no idea where it is going to go. I'll start with some riff and add the drums. I'll do the whole song and have no idea what the song is even going to be about vocal-wise. Then I'll just start thinking about something or how a certain word sounds and it will come together. When I get it all done I typically listen back and go "WTF?". LOL. It is crazy.

Sounds great! Cool tune and tone

Thanks for listening bro! Yeah, hard to believe that is the XLR out on the JJ Jr.!! Amazing cab emulation on that sucker. :)

I'm going to rip this to shreds only because I really like the main groove:
  • The main riff/verse is awesome, including the vocals. Like that is ready to go!
The chorus the first time it hits left me way disappointed. It's not bad, but it's clearly not as strong as what we were just grooving to musically. The vocals here get exposed a bit too- now this sounds like someone "just adding vocals but I'm not a vocalist" as opposed to the main riff where I never thought that at all
The 2nd & 3rd time I hear the chorus, I think this could a decent change up in the mid section, or perhaps a build to a big payoff chorus (that never happens)
The solo sounds cool until I hear multiple guitars coming in. They should support the primary guitar and not just come right in as strong everywhere, sounds cluttery. Put those down at least 5-10db and let them just give some cool color around the main notes

I did dig it though for real lol!

Dude I love it!! Trust me, I want and need feedback on songs so I can learn. I don't mind criticism at all and is really helpful. It is funny about the vocals because on the first song I did vocals on, I had them too loud. LOL. Guess I need to find an in-between area. :D

Better then 99 percent I hear on the radio.
We did quite a few originals in the past.
Never posted em.

You should have man!! :)

You know the crazy thing is that my songs are pretty simple and basic but amazing that I can record something somewhat decent in my house using a $50 recording program. I guess the Beatles did Sgt Peppers on a 4-track though so they own my soul...
