So I have this unknown brand pickup that I love. It's a humbucker that is pretty bright yet beefy. It seems to have a single coil-ish spank to it yet still really heavy and certainly not flubby. Cleans up nicely too. Here is a little clip of it. I have the amp gain on 2. It's one raw track recorded with a V30 and SM57. Just some random chords. Maybe some more precise ears could help me describe it better.

I'm looking to find a pickup very(VERY) similar to it. It measures 9.2 k ohms on my multi meter. What else can I check? I don't know what kind of magnets either. I have it wired with just a volume pot(500k).

sounds like an ibanez stock pickup....inf2 or ibz usa to me...kinda close to a jb, but also has some paf like attack and definition.

post a pic of it.

Well it's closer in sound to my JB than it is to my Aldrich(selling the Aldrich). Still is brighter and tighter than the JB. Should I be checking out PAF style pickups? Something with a similar DC resistance as the 9.2k this pickup has? Am I right in thinking that it has a sort of single coil brightness to it? Kinda the only thing that comes to mind.

So I just took the Aldrich out of my guitars and put in my 1985 SD JBJ and it sounds closer to the no name pickup than my other guitar with a JB (sh-4) that is only a few years old. So it seems I'm going in the right direction.

it does seem pretty close to the JB, i have an older one, and its similiar, but a bit less lower middy. i REALLY think it's an ibanez pickup. it has that bite dirty...and the upper mid clearness clean.

almost like a screamin demon but sound a bit brighter (could just be the guitar though).

It's actually the stock pickup in my First Act Overtone. ( viewtopic.php?f=3&t=114253&hilit=mortgage )I love it. I was hoping to find something very similar from SD or someone for the guitar I just took the Aldrich out of. My amp has plenty of gain and beef so I don't need a high output pickup. This is the first time I've owned a guitar without a high-ish output pickup. I like my guitar with the SH-4 JB. I like my guitar with the EMG 81 and I like this First Act guitar and pickup. I'm sure it's probably made by one of the same Asian pickup manufacturers. I tried emailing First Act and they have yet to respond.
