Apart from the ballads, really like this album! Nuno's tone isn't quite there yet, (I think he was using a JCM800 with a RAT pedal as a boost?), but his playing is awesome, even if the lyrics are a bit dodgy here and there.

Anyone notice how the first Extreme album is about childish things, Pornografitti is about sex/adolescence and 3 Sides is about "grown up stuff" like war and politics? Bit of a theme going there!

Teacher's Pet from the first album is an unbelievable track guitar-wise, it's just crazy!

Actually, Nuno's tone on their first album is one of my favorites. Punchline being my favorite Nuno tone. If I remember correctly, Nuno said in an interview that the JCM800 + RAT pedal combo was used on the first three albums. Hell, he's still tracking Extreme albums with that combo.

I like the album too, I just think the production was sub-par. Kid Ego and Motha Don't Want To Go To School today definitely got me interested in the band, Pornograffitti made me a huge fan.
To this day, III Sides is one of my all time favorite albums and I think it's hugely underrated.
Although I bought Punchline when it first came out, I was disappointed it wasn't as grandiose as as III Sides and that the guys adopted a grungier look in what seemed like a response to the times. Almost, 20 years later, I've grown to love the album and Nuno's tone on it is just bad ass.

As far has Nuno's Porno-tone, it was an ADA MP1 preamp into a Mackintosh power amp to my knowledge

Yeah, I'm sure it was ADA and a power amp too for Porno and lll Sides. Regardless, his playing is unreal!

I'm more of a fan of Play With Me from the Bill and Ted soundtrack than on the first album, just because the productions a lot dryer.

I love Nuno's tone on the first album. I thought it was ADA mp1 also. But i do remember a rat pedal being mentioned by him also in an interview once.

The first album is some of Nuno's best guitar work or workout. That is one intense guitar attitude which translates very well on the record.

He used his JMP with the Rat pedal boost. Extreme ll was an Ada that is well documented on the Internet including this forum by Michael Wagener. The same exact settings were used for Skid Row and White Lion. lll sides I think is a Soldano, at least that's what it sounds like. Punchline was some Fender amp, and I think maybe a Supersonic but not for certain. The most recent album was his signature amp. I personally prefer the debut album for overall tone.

Check out "Big Boys Don't Cry" and "Smoke Signals" for some great solos. And my favorite "Play with Me." I always think of Bill and Teds with that one!

Don't dig the 1st album tone much. WFTP tone is Nuno's best for sure. But I think his tone now is a bit thin/harsh as well (at least from
clips I've seen). Maybe his playing fits better with vintagey gear?

Anyway, aside from "Play With Me," I really dig Nuno's solo in "Watching, Waiting." He's got a some conviction and it is apparent
that his playing is real and emotional on that track.

I was in my senior year when I heard Kid Ego in the radio (I lived in Weston, a suburb of Boston). Loved it from the second I heard it. Bought the album and was a fan ever since. I got to see them live around 1989 at The Channel. Awesome show! The lyrics for the most part are terrible but the music is awesome.

I jumped on the Nuno bandwagon with Pornograffiti.

Nuno is the funk metal shred Jedi master.

3 Sides was a Soldano for rhythms and a Gallien Kruger for leads.

I'm a huge Nuno fan too!
I just saw a recent Extreme concert on AXS/HDnet last week.
Not sure how I did not know this but Flight of the Bumblebee was all delays.
He wasn't even playing very fast and it was obvious the delay was doing all the repeats.

I always thought he played that tune a lot faster as well..... then again i always found that flight of the bumble bee tune to be filler and didn't like it much.

Someone here said it best, he's a jedi rock funk shred master. Guy has insane chops and writes some of the coolest rythms around. I like the tone on all the albums actually. III sides and Punch line were fatter but the ADA MP-1 on the second album is pretty wicked and the first album has good tones too. Where the first album lacks a little, is in the tone of the leads. A little brittle I always found. I think he might also have bosted that ADA with his RAT pedal though.. very likely the soldano too. His tone is either thin or fat but it is always tight.

Yep, about 200 milliseconds, one repeat. He's still playing very precise though, and although it's not blazing, it's still up tempo. I remember programming a drum machine to do this, and I performed the track live, back in college. Blew people's minds that night. :D

3 Sides was my favorite, 1st one only had a few good tunes.

I did not know that, and here I thought I was a Nuno fanboi. :D

I thought he was still using his ADA rig. The Gallien Kruger thing really surprises me. Learn something new every day here on RT.

... And the unique tone on the 'Stop The World' solo was lifted from a demo using a little battery amp with a dying battery. They tried to re-record it but couldn't recapture the magic.

If you listen to a lot of those solos on 3 Sides, you can really hear the GK. Rhythms totally sound like a Soldano.

check out this video.... quality is bad, but you'll see what i'm talking about... doesn't even look down when he's playing...
