so I recently acquired an AxeFX FX8 and I have to say.. one of the best decisions so far.. sound quality is amazing and even though I am not using it to its full potentional, the flexibility and options available on it are just outstanding.
Using the FX8 in Conjunction with my Splawn Nitro. The FX8 does all the effects and channel switching on the Splawn Nitro.
Bottom 4 rows are configured in scenes:
- S1: Clean
- S2: Splawn OD1 with an FX8 volume pedal in the pre section to reduce input gain to give more of a crunch sound
- S3: Splawn OD1 with FX8 Providing Noise gate (FYI Noise Gate on Fx8 is configured in Post effects blocks.)
- S4: Splawn Solo boost with Fx8 providing Noise gate and delay.
- Top Buttons Row: 5 - Delay, 6 - Pitch Shifer, 7 - Phaser, 8 - Rotary
- F3: Tuner
- F2: No function at the moment
- F1: Looper.
The overall sound compared to how it sounded with the previous setup (bunch of pedals and G-major 2) just sounded alot more open and sustains freely. no extra unwanted noise and no adusting input/output volumes on pedals, rack unit, etc..
Cables for everything (except for Relay TRS cables), I ordered and soldered everything my self. made the cable snake using PET expandable sleeving from Amazong. Local electrical supply store got the heat shrink. Cable from guitar to between first 2 pedals and into the FX8 is Mogami 2524, TS cable that goes to amp effects send is also Mogami 2524. Hum Buster cables I made using Mogami 2549. The TRS cables used in Relay jacks for channel switching are just budget TRS cables from Amazon.
Next steps is purchasing a mission Expression pedal (SP-1 spring loaded) to use for WAH and getting rid of the buffer and wah pedal.
Cheers and thanks to all those who gave me feedback, input and assistance through this journey.
Cheers
