My first rehearsal using this amp was a huge success!

All of my bandmates (any myself) were very impressed with my tone using this amp while playing a wide variety of the cover songs that we play.

Personally, I was very surprised at how easy it was for me to dial in great sounds in both channels that sounded great in the mix with the rest of the band. I just played my amp stock without any effects and without using the XLR out to the mixer. During the first few songs, I did experiment with the "Tight and Bright" switches in both channels, and I did adjust the gain in each channel somewhat to better "capture" the sound I was after in a few songs, but I didn't fiddle with the EQ settings in either channel much at all. I mainly just adjusted my guitar volume and tone controls, and pickup selection to be most suited for whichever song we were playing.

WOW.....this is a great sounding amp that can cover a lot of ground while playing live!! :D

Great! I'm always impressed with how good this amp sounds in the mix. I don't think it can truly be appreciated until it's experienced in a live setting.

+1

Exactly!

Thanks for the responses guys!

Personally, I feel the Renegade 212 combo (with the different speakers) may be the hidden gem in the Renegade series. However, in fairness....I haven't tried the Renegade Head/Cab combination. I don't need to because I am extremely pleased with my Renegade 212!!

I will say that I did try my previously owned NIB Renegade 112 combo (which I swapped for my NIB 212) during a band rehearsal session and wasn't nearly as impressed as I am with the 212 in a live situation. Not that the 112 is a bad sounding amp....it isn't....especially if you are just noodling on your own at home. However, for playing live with a band......the 212 is superior to the 112 IMO. Once again, I feel the combination of speakers in the 212 makes a big difference.

BTW....the 212 also sounds great if just noodling on your own at home IMO. ;)

This is a great sounding amp Bruce and team.....Thank You!!

I wish GC would stock the Rebel 30 2 X 12 and othe Rebel 30 4 X 10. I've got a feeling I would love those, but I have to hear it. Compressed Youtube sound doesn't cut it for some things.

Len, do you mean the Renegade 212 and 410 combos? The Rebel 30 is available in the 212 combo, but I don't think it is even offered in a 410.

Anyway, either way it does not matter. Order whichever you wish from your local GC and you will receive it NIB. You have 30 days at your house to determine whether or not it is right for you. If not, return it to GC for a full refund or exchange. A lot of people diss GC for several reasons...lack of knowledgable salesmen, pushy, etc.... but personally....they do offer a good refund policy. In my case, my local GC salesman is very knowledgable and has always worked with me in every way to keep me happy! The fact that he ordered a NIB 112 Renegade combo at my request to "try it out", and mentioned to me that if I didn't like it.....he would order a NIB 212 or for that matter give me a complete refund!

I have purchased so much gear from him in the past (mostly Mesa Boogie amps), and I have always received the same excellent treatment from him! Maybe I am just lucky, but I have been able to specifically order just about anything from him, and if I didn't like it within 30 days.....I was always able to return it to GC for a full refund without hassle.

Anyway......Best of luck, and do give the Renegade 212 a test drive.......I think you may just like it! ;)

I may be confused there. Maybe there isn't a Rebel 30 4 X 10 combo. I know there is a Renegade 4 X 10 combo.

I know I can do that, but it still seems such a pain. You kinda just want to try it out and take it home. That's what I did with the Tourmaster, and no regrets! You do it this way, you gotta wait, you gotta lug it back- a pain.

GC bugs me as an idea- I don't like Walmart- but I know good people that work there and have always been treated well by them.

The issue that would bug me about the Renegade 2 X 12 would be the top mounted controls, which would be an issue with the Rebel 30 combo as well, but the Rebel 30 has the silent record out, which is very tempting... Still, when I think about the overall combination of quality and features, it still pushes me toward the Tourmaster. I don't think I can justify having two amps (although maybe) so getting something else would mean getting rid of that, which I can't quite see doing.

The Renegade head through the TM 2 X 12 cabinet was probably the best sounding thing I ever heard, but I can't see hauling around two separate pieces, particularly since the weight of the Tourmaster combo is the one issue I have with it.

Still, might be worth it...

There's no accounting for personal preference, but I haven't found the top mounted controls on my 212 to be an issue. Honestly, I was expecting them to be a bigger issue than they are.

For those of you asking about the 4x10, GC should be able to order it. At the shop here, we love the sound of the 4x10. It's got a great midrange bark and is definitely an interesting sound. We honestly wish it would have taken off better than it did, since we liked it so much.

A Rebel 30 2 X 12 with front mounted controls... now that would be worth ordering... !

Len,

FWIW.....I don't find the top mounted controls of the 212 Renegade Combo to be a problem at all. Initially I wasn't warming up to the idea, however, since owning the amp, I actually prefer the controls to be on the top of the amp. This provides me easier access while standing up and playing in my band. Note: I normally stand when practicing by myself! ;)

IMO, definitely don't allow the location of the controls to be a showstopper on any future Egnater amps (or others) you may consider. In my case, I am liking the top locations (very easy access while standing) and the natural tube venting through the top of the 212 Renegade Cab is an added bonus with this design IMO. :)

It was more the idea that you couldn't look at it and see where it was set. Hmmm...

I have the Rene 1x12 and love it live. I'm sure the 2x12 is good, but so is the 1x12. I've played in larger and smaller venues and both are no problem for the 1x12. Matter of fact, I can crank the 1x12 and get amazing tone - not sure if I could have done this with 2x12 - the 2x12 seemed much louder.

My 2 cents.

Yeah, I thought about the 1 X 12 at one point because of the front mounted controls. BUT- The 2 X 12 set up gives you a richer sound, and greater dispersal. That is why it seems louder.

I have been playing with the Renegade head and tourmaster 2x12 cab (with vintage 30's) for about a year. It's probably my favorite set up so far. It's weird though. I played it Friday night at a club and thought it was soooo sweet. The following night I played the same set up and it for some reason didn't cut through sound as great as the night before. Is it my ears? It's not the first time this has happened. But then again it's not the first time I've changed my mind about what I want to hear either ! It's a sickness !

the 212 might be a cool package, but when I played the Renegade it was the 1x12 first and then the 4x10 version - and oh my that 4x10 ripped the little remaining hair off my head. What an amazing tone right there!

4x10 FTW!

4x10 FTW indeed. Not too many stores stock the 4x10, but everyone who plays one seems to fall in love with it.
