...and it freaking killed!!!!

We were fortunate enough to be on a show to be one of the opening bands for the Sick Puppies... they have a song has been heavily rotated on our local rock station 99.5 KISS. On the main stage where the Sick Puppies where going to perform there were going to be a total of four bands... we were the second band. I arrived at the Texas Throwdown Tattoo Expo venue around 5pm to load up all our gear... my wife wasn't ready and she was going to take our kids to my mother-in-laws to spend the night... around 6:15 she called that she was on her way home. So I hauled ass home... originally they told us we were going to go on around 7:30pm so I figured I had enough time to make the 10-15 minute drive home to pick her up... well as soon as we were leaving I checked my phone and noticed that there were about 4 text messages and 2 missed calls... they were telling me that we were about to go on stage in less than 10 minutes!!!! I hauled ass back to the venue, parked and ran to the stage... my band mates were kind enough to already have all my gear on stage. I proceeded to connect everything up and in less than 5 minutes (maybe 7 minutes ;)) was up and running. The rest of the guys were still finishing setting up... our percussionist/2nd guitarist was having a bit of trouble with his Line 6 X3 - Carvin TS100 setup. He couldn't get any sound whatsoever... so we went with one guitar for all the songs we were going to play. Most are only one guitar with the exception of 3 or 4 of them. I cranked my amp and was blown away by my Euro Uber (?) batch... it sounded very good on stage...

I turned around and saw almost 200 folks in the crowd... I was in such a hurry to set everything up that I didn't even notice that many people there!!! Wow...

We played the first song (no sound check mind you) and during the song I noticed that I couldn't hear anyone else on stage... not even our banging drummer!!! My amp was that loud. So after the song I turned down my guitar to right below the drums... now I could hear everyone else except for vocals... my wife (bless her heart) during our second song went to go tell the sound guy to turn up all the vocals and he was so surprised that she took the initiative to do so that he told her "Your husband is a lucky man to have a wife who cares what he sounds like on stage..." So he turned us up on the mains. But the monitors were almost non-existent. I sang to the best that I could with only being able to hear myself slightly on the mains.

We only got a chance to play about 7 songs but during every song the crowd was very much into our set... I was amazed. And through it all my Axe-fx Ultra, Peavey PV-1500, Marshall 1960 4x12 and Line 6 Flextone cab rocked the house. Now I'm itching to get rid of my Flextone cab and get another Marshall 1960 cab.

We actually had a pit going right before the cops came in and broke it all up... one cop actually was poking our singer when he went into the crowd to mosh.

The best thing about the night was that the next band came on about 15 minutes later and the crowd was only about 1/3 of the size of ours... then when the Sick Puppies came on it was only about 3/4th to 4/5th as big...

It was a great night to say the least... oh... and I was finally able to try out my new Blue ENcore 200 microphone, and everyone was telling me how good the vocals sounded even though I couldn't hear them.
