EXPS3-4. Should be good. I had an original Bushnell Holosight when they 1st came out back in the day and it was great. I had it mounted on a Taurus 44 mag Pistol, but sold them when times were tough.

I now have a Romeo 5 Red Dot with matching Magnifier on a 16", 5.56.. It's great for 100 yards. 200 okay, but couldn't seem to get it going for 300 and beyond.. I was trying to do a 37 Yard Zero..

Plus, the Dot isn't really a Dot in a Magnifier.. It's more like you took a pencil and half ass tried to scribble a Dot on paper, and it changes as your eye moves in the glass..

My Cousin has land that we can play Cowboy on, so it will be good to have something more accurate for distance..

You know that's a non magnified sight too right ? Not really going to increase your distance.

I totally agree about the Romeo 5 with a magnifier though. Mine looks the same way. I don't like it. It's the only Romeo 5 I have left on an AR. I have switched most of my shotguns and ARs to Holosun 510Cs or 512Cs.

That Eotech is a damn nice optic though. They do eat batteries and in recent times people have been having problems with the reticle "Bouncing". Before I got my first 510c I was looking at Eotechs and some crayon eaters I know who now own a shop told me about the Holosuns.

So, 37 yard zero. I considered it, but Settled on 50 for all my unscoped rifles/carbines. The rifle I have set up for long (ish) range I have a Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30X50 on. If I wanted something to do CQB and 300+ yards I would be looking at LPVOs.

So when you do a 37 yard zero it's going to be close at 300, but I wouldn't expect it to be dead on. Just zero it at 37 and don't try dicking around getting it to shoot 2" groups at 300.

I got the 4 Dot Reticle.. I think I'll just to a 50 yard Zero. and then I'll have the dots on the Reticle for Holds..

The xps3-4 has a one moa dot. If you put a 4x magnifier in front of it, it becomes a 4 moa dot.

So magnified the dot “covers” 4 inches at 100 yards. At 200yds, 8 inches. At 300 yds, 12 inches. And so on.

For shooting inside of 300 yds I have an AR with an Aimpoint T2 and no magnifier. For distance I have a separate AR with a 4x32 ACOG. The ACOG also has an RMR mounted on it.

As for the smearing of the dot, do you have astygmatism? People with astygmatism will see smearing like you describe.

I run a 36 yd zero on my Aimpoint (mounted on a suppressed SBR) shooting Blackhills mk262 mod1. I don’t have to worry about holds out to 300 yds with that zero and that load… even on an SBR. And… 300 yds unmagnified is a stretch given my eyesight lately.

For my ACOG setup, 100 yd zero and XM-193 ftw.

The EXPS series has been much improved over the older versions, I had 2 of the early models and had to get with Eotech to work through contact issues with the battery carriers but they sent out revised components to me at no charge, their customer service was really good to me.
The newer ones are much brighter in full sunlight, the old units would wash out in bright sun after as little as 2 hours constant use. At that time we were training at the Camp Villere SWAT/DEA facility in Slidell LA and there was nothing but full sun all day and if they went tits up it was a real problem. We run 50 yd zero's on all AR's, so you effectively also have a 200 yd zero with little or no effort. This gave us a usable range of 0-300 yds with very little thought applied. We were not trying to shoot tight groups though, just putting rounds on IPSC steel torso's.
They actually taught us not to try to shoot tight groups, but to spread out the trama up and down the center of the kill corridor to maximize effectiveness. Start at the chest, if that's not working, (body armor) move to the pelvic girdle to stop transportation and work up to the head.
Moving through and around vehicles and barriers quickly while shooting makes it impossible to be super precise.
A buddy has the newer versions and he's been very happy with them, he chose not to run the magnifier. He has the 2 Dot below center versions.
If you need to go past 300, there are better tools for that

I like my sig dot. romeo? I can't remember. I have a love/hate relationship with my burris scopes though. eye relief is super touchy on them. you have to have it set right or your gonna be rubbernecking every time you shoot.

Look through your optic and rotate your rifle counter clockwise (depending on which eye you use). If the misshapen dot appears the same, it’s your vision. If the dot turns with the gun, it’s your optic.
