FJA 5150 mods...?

The thing about the 5150 clean is that it's not like most other amps that achieve a clean tone by shaving a few gain stages off the signal path to achieve a clean tone.

The 5150 simply attenuates the signal between two stages, to where the signal is no longer clipping. It's still running all 5 or 6 stages (I don't recall), so the tone is still dirty with the gain control dimed, but it's also anemic sounding and rather nasty when you back it off enough to be totally clean.

Well the other guitarist of this band I'm joining has a DSL... So methinks a JVM is on its way or if I can find a nicely priced used QR I'm going after her with the money from the Peavey

Anybody lookin to sell one?

I don't like this move at all. DSLs were universally blasted 15 years ago..somewhere along the line they became "good bang for your buck" heads. I'm moving in the opposite direction- I used to like my DSLs, but now I'm at the point where I can't stand them. My other guitarist uses one and it sounds like a can of bees with no clarity, no punch, no quality. I was going to try some Jedi mind tricks on him to get something else, but then I found out he has 4 full double stacks of them. Oh, and good luck keeping them out of the shop, my DSL/TSL heads were in the shop for transformer related issues more than they were played.

I forbid you to make this move :gethim:

Don't you have a line6 laying around? You could go 4cm method for clean tones.
