FL 4x12 cab with a small issue...

I own a FL 4x12 cabinet with a small issue. It's projection is terrible, I have two hotspots in front of it where i can hear myself perfectly at band practice. If I take one small step to either side from these positions the sound dissapears totally. Also if I'm farther away from the cab than 1-2 feet the bass frequencies really drops off and dissapears as well. I am going to try hooking up the other two cabs I have lying around to determine if it's the 4x12 itself that has a problem.

I'm no engineer or anything but I was thinking it could be a phase issue, could I be right about that?
 
Take a 9V battery and connect it for a
short moment to the tip and ground of
Your speaker jack.

All 4 speakers should move in the same
direction. If not, it´s out of phase.
 
Like Peter said, do the that test. When I got my new german FL, I was completely disappointed with it, especially after reading about everyone loving theirs. Came to find out after doing that little test, that two speakers were out of phase.

Fixed the wiring.
