Hi guys,

Anto here, I'm new to the forum :)

I've just bought a new Floyd Rose tremolo bar because I was experiencing a small wiggle on one of my guitars, and yes, I've checked everything, the actual problem is that the bar is "playing" in the coupling, so I decided to buy a new one given to the fact that the new bar comes with the new coupling kit.
The problem I have is that on the Floyd Rose 1000 the last part of the coupling, the one where I actually fit the bar in, won't come off no matter how hard I try. I've unscrewed the bottom part with the allen wrench with no problem at all, but the top part stays there, no matter how hard I pull, even with pliers.
This happens with both of my Floyd Rose 1000, I have 2 Original Floyd Rose "Made in Germany" and the coupling comes off with no effort.
I've emailed FR about the issue and they reply to use pliers, but I swear, the coupling won't come off. That is weird because they actually sell coupling replacement for the FR1000, so it should be replaceable. I've searched high and low on internet but it seems that nobody reported this issue.

Anyone had this problem before?

Those babies can get wedged in the baseplate really tight. You will see grooves along the ferrule to prevent it from shifting in the baseplate, and these can be stubborn.

I use a hard rubber mallet - I position the bottom of the ferrule on a solid surface / edge of a workbench. If you are doing this on the kitchen counter, definitely use a small wood block between the bottom of the ferrule and the counter top. Then drape the top of the baseplate with a thick towel and gently tap the top face of the baseplate around the ferrule with the rubber mallet. Gradually increase the ‘enthusiasm’ with the mallet til the ferrule pops out the top.

FWIW - I swapped all my threaded collar style arms with the new(er) push in style Floyd bars with the thick nylon ring and tensioner screw. These are hands down the best design. From free spinning to really stiff with zero slop between the bar and the baseplate.

Do yourself a favor and get one of the Red Bishop Majik-arm replacement arms. Absolutely amazing for several years now on all of mine. No wiggle, sits perfectly and no collar to worry about moving or coming off as well as not vibrations or noise.

You can find them on amazon as well as some other sources.

Thanks PDC! This was very helpful as i have 12 guitars all with the old threaded part which i am used to. I just got a new floyd and it has the nylon one and the bar won't sway which is the way i prefer it. So i was about to go buy a new insert with threads. I DID NOT KNOW THERE IS A TENSIONER adjustment!!

Thanks!
