Just wondering what the differences are on the FR models. I've got a San Dimas with a Floyd 2000. How do these compare to the original Floyds and the Schaller made Floyds? Is it worth replacing the Floyd I have?

FWIW...I prefer the Schaller floyd...more meat to it and although the og floyds are great..the Schaller just seems to stay in tune more constantly..

What about tonal differences....any?

Nothing beats the Original German Floyds. The Schaller Floyd's are a close second. With OFR' you have three holes for the saddle and the Shaller has two so they are trickier to set intonation. Both are top quality. The size of the sustain block is what affects tone and sustain in my opinion. That is part of the reason I dont like them recessed because they put a smaller block on them so it doesn't stick out if the rear rout.

I'm not sure about the 2000 series, never heard of those.....but the 1000 series which was used on the San Dimas models are made in Korea. I think the saddles are a different material, but not positive.

The OFR's are still the best, though some strongly prefer Gotoh's version as well.
Here is the most comprehensive history of the Floyd Rose from Kramer's pages.

I have to agree with Atomic Playboy here. I prefer OFRs myself. I use all of them from non fine tuning, fine tuning, and even had 2 of the rare Floyd Rose versions. The Schallers are nice, but I still replace them with OFRs...its a quirk that I have.

I would have to agree. The actual Original Floyd Rose's were great. The current version is pretty cheap in comparison. Of those in current production, I like the Schaller best.

I have all originals, but of interest in the Schaller branded version are the replaceable knife edges.

The model that comes on the current Charvel promods is built using same grade of steel as the German model. The arm feels a bit different, but that is a preference thing.

There is no reason to swap out yours for a German model.

When my Charvel Promod was on it's way to me I already had it in my mind that I would be changing the Floyd 1000 out for a "better" version, OFR or Schaller. Once I received the guitar I quickly realized there was no need for that. The 1000 is a quality bridge. I've had guitars with OFR, Gotoh, Schaller and now the 1000. I wouldn't kick any of them out of bed.

I said I had a Floyd 2000 but it must be a 1000. I guess the saddles on the 1000 are made of a different material than the OFR? Any advantages/disadvantages with that?

The 1000 is the OEM series that is made with the exact same quality of steel as the German produced model.

The "Special" is the one that has the cast saddles and block, but still has a hardened steel base plate.

The MIJ Charvels list a "2000" series trem, but I assume from handling one that they are the same as the 1000. I never asked Floyd after Fender started building Charvels in Japan.

I have the MIJ Charvel...so it is the 2000.

I have a new MIJ Charvel SoCal with the Floyd, and yeah they list it as a FRT-2000 or something.

Anyway, the thing feels and sounds identical to any of the real deal OFR trems i have had in the past. I doubt you would notice any improvement by putting an OFR or Schaller in the guitar.

Alright I'll stick with it then. Didn't make too much sense to invest an additional $200 on a $700 guitar anyways.

The only slight difference IMO, is that on these Floyd Rose 2000's (and probably 100o's too) the trem arm gets loose pretty easily. I find that the OFR trem arm fits a bit more snug in comparison. That's only a minor issue though and cheap to fix/change.
