I lost my tremolo arm for my Tom Anderson Drop Top, and bought a replacement, but it's sitting way too high when I drop the bar in. It has a little black spacer as shown in this photo. ..

I think I need one more like this -- my old bar didn't have that black spacer thing. Tom Anderson said they used the standard Floyd Rose arm of the day (1993). Which one is it, and where can I get one??

I guess my question is, are there a lot of differences in Floyd Rose arms?

Does the bottom of the new bar unscrew so you can remove the plastic spacer?

Not sure if it unscrews or not. I assumed that was just the continuation of the bar (I'll try unscrewing it tonight). I hope you're right!!

Try a German made Schaller replacement bar. I don't have that spacer in mine.

I have a sneaking suspicion it does. The one thing I'd be concerned about, if that is the case, is the strength of that bar. Even if it unscrews and you can remove the spacer you still need to hope they threaded the bar end to take all of the extra threading and you also need to understand that regardless of having it look like it's supposed to, the bar is in fact not as strong as a solid bar of steel and the weak link is those threads and the threaded area of the bar. :aww:

Andy, is that what is in the link above?

How do I know it's a German made Schaller?

My humble suggestion: dump the Rose and replace it with the exponentially superior (and hassle free) Hipshot tremolo bridge system ( http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=344 ) . It's the best, you're not locked in with nut bridge plates, no bridge/saddle violin fine tuners, no hassle and you can replace a single string in less than a minute. Match it up with some Sperzel locking tuners ( http://www.sperzel.com/ ) and it's just like you're playing your favorite acoustic guitar - it never goes out of tune no matter how many dive-bombs you hit it with.

The Rose tremolo bridge systems is archaic and antiquated.

Don't intend to mess up your day, just a different perspective.

Thanks but I'm not looking to change the guitar. Plus, it's already routed for the recessed Kahler Steeler, which I prefer over the OFR anyway.

Just need the arm!

Wait. Is it a Floyd Rose or Kahler Steeler?

It's a Kahler Steeler that Tom Anderson retrofitted for a Floyd arm. It's a mod they used to offer (not sure if they still do).

Tom told me that they used the standard Floyd arm back then -- but today there seems to be a few different varieties.

Oh ok. I was going to say there is a place that sells parts for those Kahlers. I had to order an arm and some screws a few years back.

You can call James McCafferty dept. head @ Floyd Rose who can definitely get exactly what you're looking for.

I know why you want it lower...it changes the point and the feel really suffers.....I am lucky in that I'm a toolmaker and can just make one or modify an existing one...there is nothing sacred about any of this shit to be honest...you could go and get a piece of steel rod thats the same diameter and bend it in a vise right where you want the thing to sit so to speak and then aybe find someone who can drill a hole for a pin...you can use a roll pin so the hole can just be drilled...nothing precise.....I had to do that with a couple of cheap ones...just made one so it would feel like my main guitar...good luck finding one that fits how you want it.
