What nut are you using now? I use an R3 and it feels good.

Also, make sure nut is perfectly centered on shelf.

Also, you may need to reseat neck on pocket for better strong alignment.

Yeah, depending on what´s on there now and the width of the neck there could be a narrower spacing available. Most times it´s more a matter of the fret end dressing, but a different nut could definitely solve the issue anyway.

All the issues that Reza and Crunch said are important. Look down the neck and see if the high E maintains the same distance the length of the neck. It's real easy to tell if it's off on your highE or low E cuz you can use the fretboard edge as your straight line. If that's the case, it's an easy fix. Also, Make sure that some bozo didn't put an R2 nut on a guitar that needs an R3, or vice versa. Finally, some guitars neck widths just don't harmonize with the Floyd nut and tremelo systems width. It's one of the main reason I had to stop playing my Ernie ball/MM EVH guitar. The high E on that guitar rides very close to the fretboard edge. Causes you to sometimes slip off the deck when playing up on the higher frets. I compared it to other guitars and it's a couple microns closer to the edge, but it makes for a frustrating experience. Everything else is lined up perfectly on it, but the neck is just a hair too thin in its width in my opinion.

I look for this on Floyd guitars almost as a rule. Try what others posted. As stated make sure it's the correct nut for the guitar. How does the nut sit in relation to the edges on each side? Sometimes they are drilled off center which is fine as long as the string alignment is good, especially on your High E. If the other suggestions check out, try this. I juts did one and it gave me enough space higher up in the registers to make it cool.
~ DO NOT SMASH IT!

~ Loosen strings enough to get the Floyd out and put aside above headstock. Just put guitar on its side and remove trem springs. You don't need to always change strings on a Floyd to put in pickups or work on the nut or board.

~Remove the nut. Take a couple of toothpicks with a little Elmers glue and fill the screw holes. Just snap them off level and push in with a philips head to pack the hole. Let dry for 30-45 minutes.

~You are going to use the same holes. Place nut back on and tighten screws in but not all the way. Try to angle the screws very slightly toward the low E side. Just support neck from underneath in the nut area because it will be tight the first time screwing in.

~ Your goal is to use your thumb and index finger to push the nut more toward the Low E as you tighten in. It won't take a whole lot and the offset shouldn't bother you. It's not easy but you should be able to get it to shift even if the screws angle a tiny bit. They will still seat. Allot of guitars come with this offset anyway.

yeah. if it 1 and 11/16 it might have and R4 instead of an R3 nut. Same width, but the R3 has narrower spacing

this nut is top mount or bottom mount.. if bottom mount remove the screws and push the nut towards the base side and re tighten..

I had this were the high E got closer to the edge of the neck as it went up the fretboard. Simple fix is to loosen the neck bolts a little and realign the neck in the pocket.

I use narrow R3 nuts on my prepro reissue Charvels. They come with R5 nuts and the strings are riding the edge. The R3 takes care of it and feels better to my hand as well.

lots of great info here.
the nut is top mounted. any way to check if its an R3 or R4? If the R3 is narrower i will just order one.
It should say on the bottom of the nut.

Here is a chart with all the Nut Measurements. Looks like R3 and 4 are the same width with different radius and string spacing...

Whoa, what about the R8?? that looks like the narrowest string spacing. right??

No, It looks like the R8 is slightly wider spacing then the R3. An even bigger concern with the R8 is the height. It might cause first fret buzzing or complete fret out...

First you need to determine what nut you have...
