Got the satchel sig charvel and I am in love with the way it plays and feels. The fluence classic pickups sound good in it, But I am looking for a tad bit more aggression and a tighter more modern sound. I’ve heard the fluence moderns can be a bit much, so would one of the signature sets available be a better alternative ? Looking for ideas from those who have tried different variations ....

Thanks !

Tried the classics and the moderns, the moderns are exactly what you describe. Tighter and more modern sounding, got a pretty aggressive feel to them; you can get a pretty classic voicing on the passive setting though.

Agreed, but I’d also consider the Abasi or Killswitch set. I had an Abasi and Modern in the same guitar and they sounded almost identical, except the Abasi had a little more upper mids, nicer cleans and more modes to play with. The Killswitch is a little lower output than the Modern, but the tightest one and more gritty. That’s my favorite Fluence model. I didn’t like the Carpenter or Townsend as much. The Townsend was like the Modern, but darker and had a little bit of a low mid cocked wah thing going on that I didn’t like.

Haven’t tried the Classics, Adler or Merrow, but it sounds like the Abasi or Killswitch would work for what you’re asking

Yeah I didn’t like the Carpenters at all. If I hadn’t tried the Moderns first I would have washed my hands of their pickups and stuck with EMGs.

The Moderns have the passive option voicing 2 which also pulls back the compression a tad and sounds good too. I use it a lot and for me it's just right. Still very tight and aggressive tone.

I have the KSE set, in my PRS, they are awesome!!!! I haven't tried any of the others so I can't be much help there. I think Fluff did a shootout between the classic and moderns on youtube.

If you think the classic set is too little and the modern is too much, get the adler set...

Passive Duncan Distortions, call it a day!

I have those in a lot of my other guitars   . I love them ! the only reason I am looking at fluence right now, is because it has the fluence classics in it now. the satchel charvels come stock with them. I was thinking of just swapping the pickups out and leaving all of the wiring. you do have a good point though, because wiring up passives wouldn't be hard at all

Passive pickups are great and there was a time I had 86'd all my actives and went the passive route and still have some passives. But depending on what kind of music and what kind of attack and clarity there are times that IMO actives are better for that given application. That's IME with trying both in different bands and styles etc. The fluence to me are the very best in actives they just have a better feel and clearer attack.....anyway lol
