Is it just me or does it sound a bit congested in this clip. I always heard the SLO having more clarity and crunch, maybe I am hearing things ...

I don't get the "military grade" marketing. I was in the Military & i know of nobody in all 5 branches that had an SLO in their job description.
If you're going to do a proper amp demo lose the EMG's because they are preamps.
Fluff is a big drop tune chuga guy & makes everything sound like a 5150.
I'll wait a few years & pick-up one of these used for $2K.

Its the Orange cab. Very dark and wooly sounding.

He also did a vid comparing a 6505 to an SLO. They sounded the same. In person they are from different planets. Lol

Not to rip on him; but that clip I mentioned is why clips cannot be trusted.

Here's a vid of the SLO 30, it sounds pretty good, all the crunch and bite with clarity.

Rabea's SLO100 vid

Rebea's face looks like mine the next day after eating Ghost pepper wings and drinking a shitload of beers.

First Boutique high gain amp? I consider Mesa Boogie to be the first with the mark 2.... this was in 1982-1983.

Yep, and I thought Mike was modding Boogies along with Marshall’s back then. The 2C was a tight high gain firebreather, even without the + mod. My first C+ was unreal sounding as a C. Built in 83.

Rebea looks like he could use a good ham sandwich about now.

Ive had them side by side as well and found them to sound very similar in the room, Peavey designed the 5150 around the Slo since Eddie liked it so much. . To me they are from the same neighborhood, just different flavors. I prefer the peavey :) especially the 6505+ . I just recently had a 2020 Slo 100 and my 6505+ was tighter , less mushy ... The Slo did not stick around for long. I also had an older SLO 100 several years ago. For modern styles I think peavey actually took the design and improved on the tone. My 6505+ on the green channel has cleans and crunch tones that are actually good, I personally thought the Slo cleans were nothing special, not any better than the 6505+. The mild breakup tones I would give a slight edge to the Slo but not by much, the green channel in crunch mode on the peavey is a really nice medium gain sound.

I've played 6505s in backlines long ago; and my experience with them is they are ok at best with nowhere near the power section bloom or touch sensitivity, clarity of any of the 3 SLOs I've owned.
Like taking a blanket off the speakers different, at least to my ears.
YMMV.

Yeah its one of those things, you would have to have them in a controlled environment side by side to really hear the differences . Personally I like the Slo 100 just not as much as the 6505+ .... The original 5150/6505 is good also, it just the most aggressive and hairy. I have owned several Soldano amps, Several peavey versions of the 5150 as well as the EVH line. They all have that similar high gain American voicing which they copied off Soldano.

The Slo does have a bit more headroom with the higher quality transformers though. I did get a chance to crank all of these amps to very high volumes, I have actually been able to max out the Peaveys and Evh amps. The Slo had a bit more left to go and overall it is a more sophisticated build, with higher quality components.... BUT tone is tone and thats what matters, I don't judge an amp on how much it costs...If the Slo sounded better to my ears I would have kept it. Im not the only one that thinks this. Ive heard several others come to the same conclusions especially Metal players that go for a tight bass reponse , the SLO has a different kind of low-end response that isn't as good for modern metal riffing, the Avenger I actually found to do that sort of thing better as far as Soldanos go. If you are more of a rock player I would understand being perfectly happy with the SLO.

I honestly never cared for his channel.
Cool content but the way he presents it sucks imo. That tone did not appeal to me whatsoever. To each their own I guess.

I agree on the tightness/metal player not liking the SLO as much. I actually liked it best with a small boost; sounded like a modded Marshall the way I set it up. Clarity is my biggest attribute with any amp; SLO is right up there with a Wizard IMO. But the 6505/5150 is a staple for the metal crowd for a reason.

I am not a fan of his demos. Yet he is endorsed by a lot of big companies, and I am not. Still, his playing is sterile and generic to me. But he is laughing as he gets a lot of cool free gear. He even has his own signature model guitar! YouTube has generated a new pack of guitar heroes. Many are big based on their personalities, rather than playing, but I guess the main thing is whatever brings the most views.

you can find my instructional videos on youporn. rock out with your cock out....and all that.
