I'm looking at getting the AxeFX2 as a means of sizing down my rig for fly/distance gigs.

What is the consensus on using the AxeFx straight to FOH/Mixing Board? All good? Or is it better with the power amp and cab set up?
This is how I would use it, but I just want to get opinions on your results before pulling the trigger on the AF2.
I would run in ears for my own monitors.

Thanks for any advice

I'm also very interested in this. I keep going back and forth between doing this or a small combo amp for small shows.

i would tka e full potential of it and just run it direct. So much easier.

As long as the place your playing has a decent monitor system it works very well direct (at least it has for me), the last few times I gigged my Axe2 I had a power amp and cab on stage but I didn't even bring the volume up on it after getting the monitor mix set up.
I have played some places where the monitors just sound like sh!t no matter what you put threw them.
YMMV of course......

I have liked clean and semi dirty tones through monitors, but higher gain sounds just never sounded right to me... but with a good set of monitors and foh, it could sound killer, but unless you bring your own trusty rig, then you will be at the mercy of whatever they have

On higher gain tones, is it fizzy or lacking bottom end?

Just didn't sound like a good amp and cab To me. Axe 2 might improve but just lacked something frfr

Thanks, am on the waiting list for a II, I have a pair of QSC K-12's I was/am hoping it will get me there.

I didn't spend a while lot of time but I just prefers pushing a guitar cab. But I do believe it's possible to achieve happiness. However some of those floor monitors are super heavy themselves.

The K-12's are 45lbs @ 1kw each...nice bottom end. Thanks for the info..

I couldn't get the FRFR to work for me. I need the amp in the room feel. The FRFR will give you more of a hifi recorded sound from what I have experienced. Hope it works for ya Jimmie. Other than that I luv the Axe II

Thanks, I hope it works to. Am jazzed at the prospects, I have the SL2A for a cab as well, time will tell.

I don't know if it is the same for the Axe II but with the ultra and standard there is a section on the Fractal forum about adding an eq (peq or geq) to compensate for the FRFR and what freq to boost or cut. 7 k bumped up to 4 sticks in my mind. By adding the eq block you can bypass it if you use a amp/cab.

I've been using it live for 6 months. I always run FOH and on the larger venues I run a pwr amp/cab on stage in addition and mic the cab. I have used IEMs but I generally don't like them for anything but vocals. But, definitely works monitoring the Axe2 this way.
