The Title says it all. I love them, you love them, we all love them. YAMAHA. While Yamaha has a very long well-established name and multiple product lines, I'd like to bring attention to all their Electric and acoustic instruments. Maybe some amplifiers? Stomps? But mostly, our stringed friends.
I'll start off with one that I will never part with. A 1995 Yamaha RGX421D. Purchased brand new as a 16th birthday gift. I went halves with my dad on it. It’s had a bit of a life. I got rid of the single coil as I never used it an wired it up on a 3 way. It'd been like that for years. Seen many pickup changes just due to experimentation but seemed to always land back on the stock humbuckers. Currently, it has a DiMarzio Air Norton in the neck and a DiMarzio MegaDrive in the bridge. Why? Why not. I have both the original humbuckers. I also installed a push pull to split the coils on the tone pot. Ya...I still have the original tone pot too lol. I never used it.
The trem sadly...it had to be replaced. I could only source so many spares for it before it wasn't economically sound (I still have it). So, I put in the next best thing. A Gotoh Floyd. Near drop in. I had to shave some wood out of the cavity where the string lock bolts are.
Finally...It does not have the original neck. Back in 2003, I went to the music store I was working at on a day off and spoke with the Yamaha service manager. My neck developed a wicked twist that we could not address. Yamaha had my back. I sent it down to them and at the time, Ken Newfield was with them. He said he could get me the "new version" of the neck. Use my old hardware. No charge. So, we did. That's why Yamaha is hands down one of the best. WELL out of the usual warranty but they stand behind their products. Their service is second to none in all my dealings with distributors, manufacturers or vendors.
There's more to the story, but I'll hold this one here. Attached are some photos of my #1 guitar.
