Here's a link to the audio tracks I did for my upcoming video "Vintage Marshall 100wt vs. Boutique Clones" which is still in production. The recordings were done at Michael Wagener's (Engineer for Ozzy,King's X,Quiet Riot,Accept,Skid Rox,ect) studio here in Nashville and all the amps were dimed with NO ATTENUATION! https://www.soundclick.com/tommyhatcher and click on the "music" tab and all the amps are listed in sequence by year model and guitar type used. I f you have any questions about gear used feel free to ask and I'll be glad to answer. Hope you enjoy listening to these stellar old & new amps!

Thanks for the clips

I think the '67 is my favorite, with the '68 as a very close second.

What spec is the '67? Is it a super bass spec like most of them?

Far and beyond my favorite clip is the 73" pcb. It sounded really really nice. Thanks.
Peace, Wade

My favorite for pure classic goodness was the '67. For more tighter hard rock that '73 PA head was supreme. Not that I'd say no to any of them really

Wow, cool post. They all have a very similiar tone for the most part but if I had to pick I would say that the 73 pcb and the voodoo v-Plex sounded best, but I like cranked Marshall on the verge of meltdown type tones. I was surprised at how nice the breakup was on the 66 also, usually they seem cleaner toned. Thanks!

Nice tones! I like all of them for different reasons, great to hear some old-school glory Marshalls

Thanks for sharing  Very cool collection there. They all sound so good that I cannot decide

Thank you gents for all the kind comments! The 67' is a JMP version with two Drake trannies and is a purple head thus the name "Purple People Eater"!LOL! Here are some pics of said rigs that saw action down at the Dallas International Guitar Festival.

The last pic is of some poser dude from Kentucky who happened along and handed me some really beat up,yellow guitar the he owned to play through those amps. The other dude was Jack my handy plugger-inner guy who manned the changing of the heads behind the wall during the seminar.

Sounds to me like proof positive that the old ones have that extra 10% that modern clones cannot bring. I hear it in the attack and the overtones as much as anything. Even the little PA 20 has "it" and ranks as one of my faves along with the 67. For random noodling, these things stick out.

But clearly I'd rather listen to a player that's 10% better through the worst of those amps than a player that's 10% worse through the best of those amps.

I like the vintage better than the clones. I owned a Reinhardt Vintage-100 and a few Germinos, Blockhead, Soultone, etc. None sounded as good as the Marshalls I played back in the day, when they were still fairly new. The Metros continue to be muddy, IMO

That said my YJM had what I was looking for when I plug in a 4-input Marshall. I plug my Hendrix Strat into it and there is the tone.

Thank you for a good honest opinion.

Man, they all sound great. It'd be hard to pick one. I lean probably toward the later dates because of the rich harmonic gain.
That little 20 watter sounds as good as any of them.

Great stuff!

Why I want one, as cool as it would be to find that untouched good old superlead you can grab a new YJM and be done with it.
