I've read the other threads and cannot find where anyone has compared the Forte V to the V/S or other cabs like the Bogner OS 2x12, Dr. Z Best, Port City Wave OS, etc.

I don't usually mic the smaller clubs, so I'm all stage volume and I've recently become a convert of semi-open back cabs. I want that closed-back punch with the openness/3D of an open back, so semi-open back's are what I'm looking for.

The Forte 3D 2x12's seem to have the best of both worlds. I have already had the following cabs:

-Bogner OS 2x12 - semi-open back
-Port City Wave OS 2x12
-Splawn 2x12
-Marshall 1936
-Egnater Tourmaster

My current cab is large vertical semi-open back with a 6" cab between panels and it is loud and rocks and has sounded better than all of the cabs listed above--to my ears.

However, I feel that it can be better with a better forward projection and not so much sound coming out of the back. It also lacks the punch of my buddy's Mesa 2x12.

Does anyone have experiences comparing this cab to other 2x12's or the difference between the V and the V/S? I am torn between these two, because I'm not a full metal player, so I don't prefer fully closed back cabs, but see the V/S as "the best of both worlds", but the regular V has having a wider dispersion due to 4 vents instead of 2.

Thoughts?

I still think the Bogner OS 2x12 is the best 2x12 out there. Get it with the closed back though, much more punchy.

I hate to say this, but my homemade cab hangs with the Bogner OS 2x12 easily, and I give it the slight edge that it is better, overall. Here's a pic of it again below. I bought this cab used at GC, but Dr. Z says they didn't make it, so I don't know where it came from.

Also, when I bought this Dr. Z homemade cab at GC, we put it head to head with a Bogner OS 2x12 closed back and my Dr. Z cab was significantly better! Myself and 3 GC employees were stunned. We cranked up my EVH 5153 50w to about 11 o'clock and had the cabs side-by-side, and the Dr. Z won, so I bought it.

I'm just chasing the dragon in a sense, but really trying to find the dragon as I've had/tried some pretty awesome 2x12s.

I am going to return the Bogner to Sweetwater at this point, as it's well within the 30 days.

Anyone else?

Oops! What's better about it: louder, more sound dispersion. It's not constructed nearly as well, though. That's the weird thing. It looks like a good job, but the Bogner is probably the best-built cabinet out of all of those I listed above. The craftsmanship is unparalleled, imo. BUT, my Dr. Z (see below) just fills the room and is slightly louder. The deminsions on the Z are 32x19x11 and the gab in the back is 6".

My buddy's Mesa 2x12 punches a bit better, even with single notes, but the band agrees that my cabinet sounds better than his overall. So again, the Dr. Z "homemade" cab I landed on is just surprisingly that good, and I almost don't want to believe it, b/c I have no idea who made it or where it came from!

It looks really well built actually. I can image it sounds good, it's really big! Bigger cabs sounds better IMHO. At least most of the time, and only up "normal" 4x12 size, bigger than that, they tend to get flabby in the low end.

I generally get skeptical when people praise their home-made cabs, because every one I tried was shit :D People don't realize that building a great cab is somewhat of an art. Yours look really cool though. Whoever built that seems to have known what they were doing!

Yeah, I'm going to hang on to it. I decided to get the Forte, but I'm just not sure which one yet. The Vertical with 4 vents or the S/V. Thanks for the comments.

If you can get your hands on a vertical/"mini quad" (more square shaped) 2x12 those are pretty good. More dispersion towards your ears. There is a vertical ENGL Pro 2x12" but it's actually made of chipboard

Also I don't rate the Mesa recto 2x12", but I'm not a big fan of too much bass and not enough midrange - I prefer the 'brit' sound. The cab I use is Marshall vert. 2x12" made of ply. Fairly rare though.

I've decided to get the Forte and return the Bogner. I just can't decide if I want the S/V or the V.

Never seen the forte's. They look interesting. Kind of a new take on the thiele design.

How about the Avatar OS 2x12 and Genz Benz G-Flex cabs? I currently use an Avatar (Looks like a Bogner OS clone), and my rhythm guitarist uses a G-Flex.

Don't know much about the Forte but the closed back Bogner OS 2x12 is one of the best sounding cabs I've ever played through.

Yup, I thought the Bogner OS open back 2x12 was great, but it did not beat my homemade Dr. Z cab in terms of filling a room. It had a slightly better thump, though.

I've ordered a Forte S/V 2x12. Can't wait to hear it.

I have yet to beat my Bogner OS 212, although my Stone Age 212C is good as well, but brighter and more articulate....different. Bogner still my favorite.
Just get a 412. I am. You can not beat a good 412.
Semi ions back cabs sound too thin to me so I close em up now.
Finally, the Port City OS 212 is crazy good. Load it with G12K-100s and prepare to he amazed. Blew away the ZBest I had.
