Fractal AM4

I'm going to dive headfirst into Synergy Amps soon and hoping I love it. With that said, being a former Fractal guy for years with the Axe-Fx II, the AM4 would be a great thing to fall back on. I could plug this into my Seymour Duncan Powerstage and have great tone and a simple setup without breaking the bank.

I love my Synergy stuff. It is a good way to collect your favorite tones and switch between them as your mood changes.

Do you have a Peavey Triple-XXX module? Jk 😜 memories.

Seriously though which ones do you have?

You think so? I have an FM3 and although this looks interesting I see it as a downgrade.
After watching more videos, I agree with you. All of their products are top-notch though.

Andy Wood did a good job of explaining why the FM three might still be better

I think the FM3 is still probably the better all-in-one. I think the AM4 will be better as a simple backup, or an addition to an existing pedalboard where you are going to combine it with a few other things.

Compared to the FM3, the advantages of the AM4 is that it’s smaller and has one more footswitch. It’s also simpler and faster to tweak as there’s no grid you have to mess with if that kind of thing matters to you.

I think if I already didn't have an Fm3 I would go with the AM4 . The Fm3 is awesome but way more than I need. AM4 looks like just enough.

Over at the Fractal forums, Cliff just mentioned that the Amp block algorithms in the AM4 are the same as the ones in the Axe-Fx III. The AM4 also uses the same analog guitar input section as the Axe-Fx III.

In other words the AM4 sounds just as good as the Axe-Fx III. But, you can't do as much in a single patch.
I believe that there is a difference in the oversampling of the amp models in the different units.

If I didn't already have an FM9, this would be very appealing. Am AMP/cab with a block in front and some time-based effects after would cover 98% of my live gigs. I really liked the Friedman IR-J, but would have still needed another device for effects.

I'm curious as to how the AM4 is to edit on the unit. Fm3 is difficult. I can do the basic stuff but in depth stuff I need the editor. Also I have a hardtime wrapping my head around footswitch layouts. I would like to just have each preset be it's own thing. I know you can do that with per preset option but it's just makes my brain hurt. I tried a few other modellers like the Boss GX10 and the Headrush mostly for a nice easy interface without software. They were nice but the amp tones and effects just don't compare to Fractal.
I wish they kept the AX8 and improved on that. The AX8 with the updated amps and effects and scribble strips would be a gamechanger. I Loved that thing.

I was going to hold out for reviews… but gave in. We know how it’s going sound. I basically need rhythm, lead, clean, and lead with some long delay/reverb. This will handle all my needs and is also a portable interface. I’ve gone through a few similar devices the past few years but none satisfied the same way my old Axe FX III did.

Yup. Same.

Is it odd that I want to trade my FM9 for one of these, it does a thousand things I'll never use and I want something simpler, thinking this could be the answer.
