So it's been out for about 4 years now. Is it still one of if not the best multi effects pedal?

I don't want amp modeling just effects.

Thanks

Imo, yes it is.

I had one for a while, then the HX came out. Sold the FX8 only due to it being a bit awkward to tweak without the editor. And for me it has way too much parameters to tweak, it's crazy!!!! This might be good for some and i get that.

The HX i am happier with, very easy go tweak on the fly and not a gazillion parameters to fiddle with. This is better for me as i am not anal about tweaking every little detail about my reverb!!!!

But i found the FX8 superior in sound quality, very crisp and clear sounding. The HX is aweome too, but a tad more organic lets say, both are great, depends on your needs.

Yes. As said above, great unit but get ready to program. Once you get the hang of it it's like any other processor but massive deep editing "if you want".

Sorry to hijack the thread but got a MKII for sale if interested, humbusting cables included. PM me if interested on the details. Was going to throw it up on here several weeks back but someone was selling one and I wanted to let them sell theirs first. And of course I "conveniently" get lazy about selling gear lol.

Bottom line for me, if this was 10 years ago I'd be in hog heaven with this thing but after years of programming rack effects, then downsizing to a pedalboard to a bedroom player, I just don't have it in me anymore. Great unit, it's all there but I just don't have the time or "want to" most importantly.

Delays, Verbs are fantastic. Chorus and other modulation effects are really great. The routing i.e 4CM with the hum buster cables is dead on. Great unit.

I need to sell my pedals and board (Friedman, Diezel, Strymon, TC) to get they money to pay for it first. What are you asking though?

FX8 is an excellent unit. ...really surprises me it didn't take off more than it has. Its cost is immediately offset with the amount of quality effects.

Sent you a PM.

The Fractal Audio FX-8 is a great multi-effects floor processor with relays to control your amp. Compared to my Zoom G9.2tt multi-effects floor processor which is easier to program, sounds decent, but dislike the overdrive/distortion, sounds a bit noisy, & never used the amp/cab modeling. The FX-8 has other said requires you to read the owners manual, learn how to use the unit with or without the software editor, has a lot of parameters to tweak. The sound quality, capability, and quiet operation of the FX-8 is far better than my Zoom G9.2tt floor processor as an effects unit & MIDI controller. Coming from a rack system type of set up, I intend to retire the Zoom G9.2tt and my Korg DL8000R and use my Mosvalve power amps for powering the wet signal, once I get the presets tweaked to my liking.

I'm currently using my FX-8 hooked up in 4 cable method with a Reverend Goblin or Kingsnake 1x12 combo amps in my cover bands to cover my overdrive/distortion/modulation/delay/reverbs. I wanted to use it as if there was a backline amp only situation. Once I get my presets tweaked to my liking, I will start integrating it with my channel switching, high gain combo or amp heads. Whether it's the best or not to anyone is a matter of being comfortable with the user interface & software editor, reading the manual, and learning how to use it in a real world situation.

Well I didn't know the Ax8 was only $200 more so now I'm looking for one.

if you are wanting it just for the effects get the FX8
I was thinking of getting an AX8 and using the effects for my amp and then I would have the modeler if I ever needed it, the tech support at Fractal advised against it. I was told by fractal that I wouldn't be happy with the ax8 for effects on a tube amp.

Hmmmm. Good to know. I wonder why.

Ola was using the AX8 on tour with his Satan a few years back.
Kind of weird because he needed to add on a midi converter (he designed the amp for cryin out loud, why not include the midi on the amp??)
Also odd that he didn't use the FX8.
It seemed to work well on the video and it gives you the backup rig with the amp sims.

I want another fx8 but there was a shortcoming or two:
my lead tone had a long delay. My rhythm has a shorter delay option. The spillover made bad weird sounds at times that you could usually program out with a clever plan, but there was always a time in the set where that ziiiing would appear.
once it is in a board/case, it is a bit beefy and cumbersome to carry.

I may keep using my Kemper and hope that an fxiii comes out with more power, improved spillover, and hopefully more compact/lighter...maybe an axiii with an improved 4cm ability to cover it all. They update hardware a lot (too often actually), so I think they are about due...especially considering the recent competitor's projects.

It is a super sounding piece though! I miss it

I really don't know. I think it may be the way its set up.From being on the forum I know that the "lay out" of the modelers is different than the FX8.The modelers probably aren't set up to do Just effects. I'm sure its possible but maybe a pain IDK.
You should go to the Fractal forum and ask around.

It’s not a pain
If you have a midi amp, The 4cm wires up the same on AX8 vs FX8
It’s a question of quality/noise floor
Some ax8 people are happy
Everyone agrees go with FX8 if 4cm effects is your goal

I do the 4CM with my FX8
