I have my framus dragon running through a mesa traditional 4x12 with vintage 30's, and my amp is really fizzy. I cant dial out the fizzy- ness with the presence all the way down, and the treble at one. its getting really annoying, Im running all tungsols right now, pre and power, Note: I'm not sitting right in front of the cab, I'm at a about a 120 degree angle. can any dragon owners suggest me some preamp tubes that might cut down on fizzyness? thanks,
Zach...

The best thing you can do is just walk away from the amp... then sell it to me!!! Seriously, try a good set of ruby tubes in that thing, and as far as preamp tubes I have no Idea what works well in Framus amps.

Do you have a different cab to try? I'd to that first before tubes. I'm sure you've thought of that though.

tung sol's are extremely bright pre's. try something else in there and if all else fails...send it to jerry @ fja mods.

All Tung Sols in the pre is your problem IMO...those a bright preamp tubes!

Ive already tried that. not as fizzy with my avatar cab, but still pretty fizzy.

I have lots of JJ's EH's GT's TAD's Sovteks's for preamp tubes. Which do you guys think would work the best?

i tried bunch of different things ,what i liked best was running all jjs in the preamped section even matched and tested ...even in the loop slot

I installed some Tungsol EL34s in my Engl, and my tech remarked what a crappy power tube it was. For matched tubes they were way off...might want to look at a different power tube as well...

I seriously hated that amp. I had one for about a year. Couldn't wait to get rid of it. It's a fizzy amp. No getting away from it. Great FX loop, though. ;)

Is the cobra any less fizzy? if it is, I could always mod my dragon to the cobra specs. :)

I'd try to EQ down the upper high end in the loop. What you are hearing is most likely upwards of 10k, which you don't really need. You can easily get rid of it with a simple EQ.

One trick that is a MUST on the Cobra to kill the fizz is to run the channel volume dimed, and I mean dimed to where the knob will not go any further because even at 9/10 is fizzy. Probably works on the Dragon too.

From my experience, the Cobra is even more fizzy.

The Dragon is the only amp I've ever played that I would say was fizzy enough to bother me.

Mine's not fizzy at all.

if yours is it could be a cold bias or other issue with the amp or components/tubes.

mine's clear as a bell and barely gets fizz even with gain dimed and boosted (though i can't play it with anywhere NEAR that level of preamp distortion)

try using good preamp tubes. no Chinese tubes for one....or EH's. both are fizzy mush. I use GE and RCA 7025's and Mullard or tung sol RI's and have great clarity and punch.
