Greetings,

I just found this forum & I'm smacking myself in the head (shoulda had a V8 style) for not finding it earlier.

I was in LA last week & stopped by Tone Merchants to check out some pedals. The pedals didn't do much for me, but the amp I was playing through was unbelievable. It was a Dirty Shirley. Just a super smooth warm classic Marshall tone, unlike anything I'd ever heard. It needed a wee bit of a boost to get the gain level I was after, but what an amp.

Just before I was leaving, Phil X dropped off the Brown Eye he had on loan & I got to try it out as well. I couldn't believe the tone from this amp. It was THE ultimate plexi tone. I would go so far as to say that a Plexi wishes it could sound this good.

I have 3 pretty good amps (Badger 18, Mesa Lonestar & Two Rock Classic Reverb V3) but these Friemands made me want to sell them & never play any other amp ever again. Of course I won't do this, but I think there is a Brown Eye in the very near future for me. I'm just waiting for the Steve Stevens model to come out as it's supposed to be a cross between a clean Fender & a Brown Eye.

Welcome aboard, you will fit in well here, hope you have lots of Dough . :)

Your avatar is cool Dave. Are you sure Brad didn't put you up to this

You're life as you once new it is now over my friend. Prediction: you will sell whatever you can to get a Friedman and then wonder how you ever enjoyed playing anything else!!

Welcome aboard...you'll fit in well with this crew

As for Friedman amps, I couldn't agree more. My Marsha (now the Browneye) has effectively ended my tone chasing...it does everything I want and does so in a spectacular fashion. Going on 2 years now and the honeymoon isn't over. My Marshalls, Fenders, and Matchless are gathering dust.

Welcome aboard! RT is the place to be, and yes, Dave does amazing work!

Dave is an amp ninja and a nice guy too boot.

Dave was there & I was hoping to talk to him, but a fast talking gent took up all his time, & I was on a deadline so I had to leave. I found out later that that gent was none other than Andy Brauer.

There was a really nice guy working there who's name I forgot, who had just moved to LA from Canada, who was beyond helpful & accommodating as well.

So during my brief time at Tone Merchant, I saw Phil X, Pete Thorn, Andy Brauer & Dave.

How cool is that?

If I lived in LA, I'd just go back & forth between Tone Merchants, The Baked Potato & Canters Deli.

Wow, I was not thrilled with either the Friedman Marsha or the Naked when I tried them, certainly not for the money! Personal taste.

That guy was Mark Day, he's a excellent player and a mod here on the forum.

I was the opposite since I was surprised how reasonable the Friedmans were.

After spending a big chunk o' change on a Two Rock Custom Reverb V3 last month, I could've almost bought a Brown Eye & a Dirty Shirley.

Just curious about what amps do thrill you?

If you get a Friedman, get an actual Friedman and not another amp modded by Dave. Although it is a little more expensive, you are better off getting exactly what you want. Dave does a great job at modding amps but he can only work with what you give him. Get the whole package. Trust me, you'll be happier in the end. I had a modded Marshall and although Dave's mods really suped up the amp, in it's stock form it was very bright and harsh so there was only so much he could do with it.
