Friedman BE-OD Pedal Owners: Question about trim pot

I have the pedal and so far have left it at the default factory setting. I understand the purpose of a trim pot but really have a question about how the trim pot setting affects the tone once it is set.

For example, if you lower the trim pot to say 9 o'clock, are you able to dime the gain knob and get a better tone than say the gain knob at noon but trim pot set at 4 o'clock?

I don't know enough about how these things work but I imagine it is like an amp where you can have a Master Volume and Gain and as you raise or lower them, you get different things happening. Maybe it isn't like that at all though. :) Maybe Dave F. will jump in here and comment.

The tone on mine seemed to stay the same when I turned it down. It just allowed me to turn the gain down to a more usable level

I messed around with it and I did not feel a reason to change it from the noon settings. I am using ssh+ in the bridge.

The tone stays the same no matter where you set the trim pot. If you are boosting a clean amp i like the trim pot at noon. If you are using it to boost an amp that has gain in it i like it all the way down...

Yeah, makes sense to me now. I was focusing so much on the high gain but the idea is to lower that trim pot so even with the knob gained, it is still usable.

When people are using it as a boost, are they doing the typical setup where you dime the level and drop the gain?

can you use this pedal direct to an interface and then add cab impulses? or would that sound funky?

I think you would need a power amp sim. I plugged mine into my torpedo live and used the power amp sim with the impulse response. Does not sound nearly as good as going into the input of a tube amp.

I'm actually using mine into the Fractal Axe-Fx II and using the Fractal GB 4x12 IR. Seems to be the clearest and best sounding. I've messed with a few others but this one works. I really want to hear the pedal into an actual amp in person..

I read somewhere that reducing the trim pot and gain leads to thinner tone? Not sure if there is thicker tone with the trim pot at noon, and the gain lower, or, the trim pot at zero, and the gain up to noon?

Yeah, that is what I was wondering. I was almost picturing it like cranking a tube amp compared to listening at bedroom levels. With an amp, if you can't crank it you lose some of that magic. I was wondering if pedals with a trim adjustment work in a similar way.

Never messed with the Trim pot. But when I kick the gain back to 1 or 2 on the pedal it does seem to 'thin out' a bit.

Not true

I agree!!! Not true at all!!!!

The gain knob and tight control are very interactive play around with it. The higher the tight know the leaner the sounds but you can add more gain. The less tight i use the lower the gain needs to be to sound clear. Very cool pedal!

I have my trim pot at noon and gain knob anywhere from 10:00 - 12:30 depending on what I'm doing (rhythm/wank). I'm liking the tight knob a little lower for lead stuff, adds some warmth, fits well over the toothy rhythm grind.

I also have the Gain Trim Pot around noon and the Gain around noon. Sounds killer!!! Also sounds great with the gain dialed almost all the way down to get an ACDC like tone!!!

The gain sounds great at around 9- noon.

Yes, it does, but also sounds great when you have it almost off/lowest setting.
