Gents,

So I had a type of "happy accident" last night while messing around with the JJ Jr. I had my Keeley pedals plugged in and was messing with the clean channel and then moved back to the BE/JBE. I turned the gain way down to about a 2 or 3 and then hit my Keeley "El Rey Dorado" pedal and it took on this percussive tone. I had my Keeley DDR reverb on too. I dropped the gain down to zero on the El Rey Dorado with the level up a bit and started jamming on some VH riffs...sloppy VH I might add.

I haven't played a bunch of these riffs in a long time so sloppy, wrong, etc. but wanted to show low gain with a pedal and some of the other possibilities. I think it has a good VH vibe, especially since I'm actually using a Les Paul with a Motor City 2nd Degree BB in the bridge. I'm sure one of these VH masters could really do it justice:

Nice man! I am seriously pretty impressed with that direct tone out of the Cab sim. Thanks for posting.

I may or may not have one of these guys inbound to check out... ;)

Dude, you are supposed to be saving up for greasepaint, flashpots, and a smoking Les Paul!!!

Seriously though, thanks! Yeah, this amp is badass. I'm going to get a cab eventually but agree that the Cab sim is pretty damn impressive considering that is just plug and play with no post EQ, etc.

Posted in the Friedman thread.
But ya.... this sounds killer. in

Story checks out!

Amp sounds awesome though man.

The cab sim makes it sound like the first Boston record. I dig it!

I need more sustain!! ;) On a sidenote, that Boston record is insane! Blows my mind every time I listen to that all the way thru. That was like the "Appetite for Destruction" for the 70s. Every song is killer, the tone is amazing, and you listen to the whole thing in one sitting.

Thanks for checking it out!

Sounds great man!
Nice work.
Impressive tone for the onboard line out.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks bro, appreciate it! I get lazy, but from time to time I get the energy to do a clip or two. I know alot of people like to see the different capabilities of an amp, even if it is just a simple clip. Gives people a rough idea of what to expect if they didn't have a cab and were strictly using the XLR out.

I was wondering, what cab you using with your BE-50 DLX? I'm starting to think about what I might want to get down the road. Thanks again!

Absolutely!
I appreciate stuff like this big time. Helps just as you describe.

For cabs... I have the Friedman 2x12 for my BE50 and the Friedman 1x12 for my WW PT20. Stock speakers for each.
I'm extremely happy with both. I had a few different cabs and with different speaker combos before I decided to go with the Friedmans.
They just have the right porting and really sound "big" for their size.

Great box you got there and doesn't sound sloppy to me at all.

Thanks man! Just curious, when using the 1x12 versus the 2x12, is there something you like better with one over the other? A 1x12 is obviously cheaper but wondering what I'd give up going with that instead of a 1x12.

For sure. I think the thing to key in on is that they sound big "for what they are".
A 2x12 doesn't sound like a 4x12, a 1x12 doesn't sound like a 2x12,
They both sound great, but you lose girth, push, etc. as you go down in size.
Just depends what fits your needs. I refuse to cart around a 4x12 anymore and I just don't get the opportunity to play that loud anymore. The venues we play at don't lend themselves to that. The way I play at home and rehearsal... a 2x12 is now my "big guns" and a 1x12 is honestly all I really need.

If size/weight isn't that much of an issue... I'd get the 2x12. It pushes a lot of air and just sounds fantastic.

Yeah, anytime I miss a 4x12 I think about that moment right before my hernia surgeries when they put the mask on my face and told me to breathe....LOL :D All of those gigs in Hawaii when I'd have to take my 4x12 up a flight of stairs with a bandmate because of the club layout.

The other thing I'm going back and forth on is brand. I keep wondering if a Friedman or Bogner 1x12 would sound better than Avatar, Mesa, etc. 2x12s. I wish the Friedman 2x12 wasn't so much. Might be overkill since I just play at home and don't gig anymore.

2x12s really are where it is at now. Best of both worlds. I've had a custom Avatar 212 and now my Splawn 212 and both are great. Never spent any time with a Mesa 212 but you know their rep. That said, pushing my Mesa Trad 4x12 is on a a whole other special level.

Awesome! That was a fun listen. Great finger gymnastics. Great tones.
