Dave turned it out in a matter of a few days (!) Top notch workmanship, and sounds fantastic. I also got the sat switch, and fat switch options. Highly recommended. It has a ton of useful gain, very articulate. Stays tight. The fat switch option adds a whole different dimension to the tone, seems like it adds depth also. Very balanced, very punchy. I love the C45 setting for leads, but for rhythm work, the Brown Eye, and Hairy Brown Eye are amazing. The saturation switch adds a ton of gain to both, but its useful gain that retains its character as you crank it. My Metro has a dual-output tranny that lets you lower the voltage approx 100 volts to the output tubes for a variac effect, it is a subtle difference, but it does give me another option as far as tone goes. The amp has a tone all its own, it does not sound like a HG Jose mod, I think the Jose mod has a more pronounced mid section, but it has its own thing going on. I LOVE it. Very responsive to different guitars and pups, and even on high-gain settings, still rolls off well. Thanks Dave for hooking me up so quickly, I am now a Hairy Brown Eye believer :D :D If you are considering the kitchen sink mods, get the sat switch, and fat switch options, trust me, you wont regret it - Jim

  Thanks man, I appreciate you hooking me up on that one. I may get another, and leave it the way this one was, with the master volume and dual tranny mods just like this one had. As much as I like it now, there is no way to get that stock plexi tone out of it, which I dearly loved, but I knew I'd be giving that up. I think the dual output tranny made more of a difference in tone before the mod, if that makes any sense. It may just be the fact that there is so much more gain on tap, and it has changed what I'm hearing. There is definitely a difference, but it is not quite as pronounced as it was stock, with FAR less gain. Thanks again Joey - Jim

Very cool. I still would love to play one.
Thanks Dave, I think you would like it a lot, it has a different gain structure than your Jose's, not better or worse, just different. My understanding of the Jose's are that they use the original 3 preamp tubes (?), Dave adds a 4th tube, you would think it would be way more compressed, but its only a hair more. It still stays tight under tons of gain, with lots of attack that you can still feel at your pick. Its a really dynamic amp to have the amount of gain on tap that it does. The fat switch made a huge difference in the overall sound of the amp. I did not expect there to be the amount of difference that there was, it was a nice surprise.
