I want a Marsha but can have a nice Friedman Metro.

What`s the difference between the two tone wise?

I want 3 tones out of this amp, a nice clean, the obvious Halen tone and a Randy Rhoads JMP type tone like he had on the tribute album. Can these amps achieve that?

Yes should be the answer, i know it will...

Thanks,

Chris

I'm sure there's Youtube clips out there for you to compare.

Yeah but i`d like for somebody who tried both to give a little comparison.

I~ll try the rig-talk forum, might get more hits there.

Thanks,

Chris

I have one of Dave's early Marsha's and can confirm that it will absolutely nail the tones you mentioned above (and then some). My amp has the full clean channel and it is one of the best you will find on a multi channel amp. I have never tried a Metro Friedman, but there will definietely be many similarities in the way they sound if they both have the BE and HBE channels. The advantage of the Marsha, and added expense, comes from the fact it is a ground up build by Dave with all the parts he has personally selected to get the infamous Friedman Marsha tone. Best of luck with your decision. You will get a great sounding amp with either one!

Thanks a lot for this, that`s what i want to hear. I dunno if i would go for the full clean, the Metro i`m looking at has the simple clean and people seem to really like it. I`ts not that important for me. But i need that Van Halen tone. I just contacted Dave to have some info on having it modded to get the HBE and a line out.

I had the same dilemma and went for the Marsha, haven't got it yet. I just didn't want to think that I might have gotten something better and didn't. Some mods sound better than others. For example Lugos '71 Marshall just kills!.

With regards to the clean channel, the full clean is not available anymore so you shouldn't have to worry about which to get... I hear the simple clean sounds great, so I went for that one...
