Dave got a hold of me and looks like my amp should be here in about a week or so. I'm so excited I can barely contain myself. :)

For anyone who is considering buying an amp from Dave or having an amp modded, he is very organized and gets the amps built as fast as possible. He contacts the customer promptly when the amp is complete and sends an invoice, etc.

Dave was very helpful thru the process of deciding on what to have done to my Marshall and I can't wait for it to get here.

Congrats!!
I had several items modded by Dave in the past and its always been top notch.
Great guy to deal with and very easy going.
Cant wait for your review!!

I ended up getting the Kitchen Sink with the Sat, Gain, and Effects Loop. Should be a completely different beast than the Splawn because rather than adjust in several different locations, Dave recommended I replace one whole section inside the amp. It should sound killer! I have a Genz Benz G-Flex 2x12 and Marshall 4x12 JCM 900 cab so will be able to get an idea of how it sounds with both.

When did you send your amp out to him? It's been over 3 months now since I sent him my JMP.

Congrats! You still playing splawn too?

Hey man! Actually, I sent him the Splawn. :) I liked the amp but would rather mod a Marshall I already own than buy another Marshall and have that modded. Just easier to mod the Splawn. I think I'll like the Friedman more than the Splawn because it will be more versatile and will most likely have alot more low end.

It has been about 2 1/2 months for mine but I didn't need some of the work that others had done. Normally Dave modifies specific components inside an amp and obviously he sees alot of different types of amps. In my case, I needed so many different things done (some repair work to older parts, etc.) that he said it would be easier (and cheaper) to just replace the entire board, so that is what I did. I'm not an amp maint guy so I don't completely understand what had to be done.

My amp was in Hawaii for several years and the environment there with the saltwater, humidity, etc. probably did a number to the insides. I didn't get into alot of detail with Dave back in August because I know he is really busy but he gave me quick details on what he thought I should do. I was all for it because number 1, he obviously knows how to make an awesome amp and number 2, I didn't want to have this mod done and years later have one old part (that I didn't replace when I had the chance), screw up the amp.

I'm sure you will hear from Dave soon. He got bombarded around Jul/Aug. They moved the Racksystems shop during that time and I remember alot of people sending amps in from Rig-Talk alone during that time period. Not to mention the Friedman amp line he still has to maintain.

I find the Friedman mods are more organic than the Splawn mods. Friedmans clean up better too.
That said, selling the Splawn first would have brought in more money. That's what I did!

Cool...splawns are the same as a marshall inside and built pretty nice...plus there are solder pads on the top of the board so you don't really have to pull the board to mod. He uses terminal strips for his mod to the stock Marshall circuitry that are mounted on the PCB to rewire v2 as 2 gainstages instead of the stock cathode follower setup, plus some other different values. But all the color codes and resistor and capacitor jumpers on the board correspond to Marshall a marshall plexi reiusse schematic, so you'll feel right at home modding it....its exact! Pretty cool...

Another cool thing is that he uses the same transformers in the 50 watts as he does in the 100 watters.... and the chasis is already punched for extra tubes so just add tube sockets and a few other things and go!.... cool amps to mod for sure and great price point...the heyboers are a little darker but sound pretty good. . .

I just modded my spawn and it rips now!

I bet your amp will sound killer! post clips when you get it back...

so you had Dave mod a marshall that Splawn had already modded or you sent him a Splawn amp like a Quick rod or a pro mod ?

I get the feeling dave is about hip deep right now in amps waiting to be modded thanks to all of us rig-talkers

be patient, Dave's got alot on his plate right now and when he finally delivers - its always something killer

Btw I sent mine to Dave on July 6th

A friend of mine had his 1959SLP Reissue modded by Scott Splawn years ago. I bought it about 2 years ago from him. It was in pretty good shape except a rough looking headshell (which busted when I shipped it to Dave) :)

I decided to send it to Dave since technically it is a Marshall not a Splawn.

I know he is very organized so guaranteed the ones you guys are sending need more done. I believe the SLP is easier to mod than the JMP but I'm basing that on what I've heard rather than my own knowledge.

mines just a MTS Plexi module

when its done it'll be a BE / C45 with Sat Switch

I was just trying to get an idea of the current wait time without having to waste Dave's time with an unnecessary email.

I just sent him an amp last week and he hasn't responded to my email so he must be pretty busy. :aww:

Guys I working through the mods. Hang on a lot more will be going out in the next few weeks.

Cheer up, 3 months is nothing, your lucky to get your amp back from Mark Cameron in the same year, if at all so i'm told.
