Guys, this amp f'n KILLS! I actually am liking it more and more every time I plug in and that's pretty rare. This thing just nails the ideal modern metal sound but still has a bit of the vintage recto sag.
I wish I could do a proper mic'd recording to show you guys how it really sounds. It just crushes and has the most addictive feel when laying into some djenty palm-mutes (yeah I went there   Friggin hate when people say djenty, but I don't know how else to describe it)

The best thing is that it sounds like a what a Rectifier should sound like. Dave didn't neuter it or take away any balls like some other modders/builders do. He kept the recto sound intact but fine tuned the low end and response and made the gain sweet but brutal. It seriously KILLS any other recto I've played or heard including several old 2-channel versions and the newer 2010's. I highly recommend sending your recto to Dave, but if you guys don't I won't be upset because then I'll have the best sounding recto in the universe.

does he take some of the sub bass frequencies away and give you more upper mids? this would seem like a great improvement for the kind of music I play...thoughts

Yeah, I think you could say there are more upper mids. It definitely takes away the sloppy low frequencies. I still use a boost for metal but that goes for most amps. I just like what my BB+ adds to the equation, but Dave's mod and using EL34's or in my case KT77's really makes the low end tight and responsive. Before the mod I could get the mid frequencies that I wanted to come out, but along with that came piercing high end frequencies as well that couldn't be dialed out. Now it's just perfect!
And my favorite part about it is the addictive trademark Friedman feel that he gave the amp. I don't know if it's the caps or what, but there's a certain "crisp" sound that Brown Eye/Marsha and Naked amps have in the ToneMerchant demoes that I hear in my amp too. It's subtle, but it's this certain something that makes the amp a blast to play. I've found that it likes ceramic pups as well.

Again, the amp still sounds like a recto, but to me it is the ideal recto sound. The way I feel the amp should sound stock but doesn't. That's what I love about Dave's work. He doesn't radically change the amp like some other guys, he keeps the integrity of the original design intact, but improves it and gives it that special voicing.

Congrats! I've always wanted to like rectos but never have. I didn't even know he did them.
