Friedman Small Box question

I'm new to Friedman amps. I bought a Friedman Dirty Shirley, a couple weeks ago, kind of on a whim. I was so impressed with the amp after a week that I purchased a Small Box.

While playing the DS, when I roll the volume back on the guitar, it still sounds really good, all the way down to 3 or 4 on the guitar volume knob. Doing the same on the Small Box, at 9 and below on the guitar volume knob it seems all the high end disappears, just becomes very bass heavy, or muffled sounding.

Anybody know if there is remedy for this, something to try, or if it’s just how this amp behaves.

Thanks

which channel are you rolling back on? 1 or 2. I found Channel 1 to be the star of the Smallbox. It was just a super complex channel.

Hey buck,

Rolling back on both channels. They both sound fantastic with guitar volume on 10, but but just backing off to 9.5 or 9, and they sound very muted (i've used multiple guitars), it's not terrible, just really muted.

The DS when rolling back guitar volume sounds great, still has full frequency all the way down to 3 or 4. Maybe the smallpox is designed this way, but it seems like maybe something is not quite right. Seems I read somewhere about this issue (not with this amp), can't find it now, but that a tube replacement or something fixed it.

Your right that Plexi channel...holy smokes, it is spectacular! The more I play with it the more versatile I see it is.

I've found the same thing. I think its just part of this type of circuit. My JMP is the same way. YMMV
