Friedman? Splawn? Other?? Looking for an amp!

I'm looking for a simpler setup, with that BE tone. I don't need cleans, don't need multiple channels.

50 watts, or less, (if possible without going to EL84's.

Will a Splawn get there? I'm looking for more high gain Plexi.

One channel with FX loop is all I need!

tampa is a pretty big city, aren't there any stores that have a runt to try out? if not buy one new and have the option to return it, although I bet it sounds so good you wouldn't.

I basically don't trust online clips at all. either it sounds so good its probably been doctored or its a compressed mp3 that sounds shitty but still might be a decent amp in the room.

Tampa doesnt have shit. GC has Orange, Blackstar, Marshall and Lines 6. They cater to entry level.

While I admit, the Runt 50 sounds amazing, the Quick Rod at 2k is a no brainer. Just a great high end amp all around period. You'll save alot of $ for something else.

I'm biased considering I love my Splawn. I would say quickrod or since you don't need a clean, competition. They are just unbeatable for the price. Even next to a brown eye, I preferred my Splawn but that was one of the first or second versions of the Friedman, I haven't gotten a chance to try a newer one.

The BE tone is the tone, for me. I just don't need all the bells and whistles and price tag. It's just overkill. I think I'm contemplating a Splawn or Runt 50.

Is the PT-20 that close to the BE-100, where an EQ in the loop could add that thickness the EL84's lack??

The Bottle Rocket is a BEAST of an amp. Super aggressive, great feeling, and super responsive to volume knob roll off.

Seriously, the demo's don't do it justice.

Such a nice amp.

Two different amps (as I've PM'd napalmdeath just a bit ago). The Splawn has more of a high-mid voicing and more gain, and the Runt has a darker low-mid voicing. The Runt sounds amazing with V30s where the Splawn sounds amazing with Greenbacks. Sort of apples to oranges. But both are amazing at what they do.

Thought the Henning Bottle rocket was a good idea too, but never played one. ( clips sound great though) I do own a 50watt Helios and a BE100.

I've played a BE-100. Nice amp. With that said, the tone of the BE is not double the price of a fully loaded Quick Rod better. My Quick Rod has killed all amp gas for me. 1st Gear OD2 is pretty much the tone we all grew up listening to. Puts a smile on my face every time I plug in. I'm not saying that the BE is a bad amp. It does sound killer. I just don't think it's worth $3700. But that's just my opinion.
