Ok... so I have decided that I am ready for another flavor of hot rodded Marshal tone. I have enjoyed my 2005 Splawn Quickrod for the past five years, but I feel its getting time to move on to something else. Something with an actual clean channel..lol! I have decided that I would like to go in the Friedman direction. I'm just trying to decide between the BE100 and the SS100. From the clips that I have heard, the SS100 seems to have more grind in the mids. I really dig how they seem to pulse on chords. The BE Deluxe also intrigues me, but I really haven't heard a clip where I feel like I wouldn't be wanting more gain. I'm sure the amp has plenty of gain, but I just really haven't heard a clip when the gain was up a lot. For those who have played both, can you compare and contrast the difference in the two?

I play hard rock. I play in drop D flat mostly in my band. So I want something that sounds huge and defined. From the clips I've heard, I think I would prefer the SS, but I'm willing to listen to other opinions. Thanks in advance!

I do enjoy my SS100. I don't own the BE100DLX, although I do have a BE100 that Dave has modded.
Regardless, I like the cleans on the SS100 more.

The dirt channels on both amps are excellent. And although the clean on the BE is great, it's not quite the SS100 clean. I have heard Dave will mod a BE clean to a SS clean though. If that's what you what.

The DLX does have a couple "new" controls that might be of benefit...so it's probably worth trying them.

I LOVE my Splawn QR heads. So, there's a definite difference and they are ALL worth owning :D
Still all of have them.

I would imagine there are settings on the DLX that would get close to the SS, Ive already seen Dave give out settings that would replicate the JJ and the Phil X, which are 2 opposite extremes of the gain ends. There are no settings on the SS that will get close to the DLX as far as gain levels. I'd try to play them both, Ive had the DLX for months now and I'm still finding tones I had no idea were in there. Ive tried the JJ and Phil X settings he recommended and they are indeed very close to the center of the target. The Phil X settings pretty much rely on a P90 to get there, that's a huge part of his tone. The JJ settings were actually easier to obtain with a wider range of pickups. Ive not played a SS, but I know its slightly more gain than the Phil X, so it seems absolutely plausible the DLX could get closer to the SS than the SS could get to the DLX if that makes any sense.
Not sure if that helps at all.....

Is the HBE channel footswitchable on the newer models of BE100? I thought I remembered he had two inputs on the older BE100's, BE channel jack and the HBE(extra gain stage) channel jack. The new BE100's have just one input jack so the HBE must be footswitchable on the new ones.
