Anyone had a chance to try one of these yet? I'm debating getting one to pair with my VH4 while the 48mo deal is going on at Sweetwater.

I own one along with a black friedman cab, its pretty much the same as all of the friedman cabs, no real difference but they are some of the best cabs on the market right now. I much prefer them over my EVH cab.

Same as the normal Friedman 4x12 with different cosmetics. Some say they can hear a difference with different grille cloth.

Actually the the SS412 is loaded with all v30's, and the BE412 has GB's up top, and v30's on the bottom. Other than that, and styling they are the same.

Odd it says 2 Gb and 2 V30s. That's kinda what i was thinking about trying it for.

Thats interesting, I guess they came both ways at some point, or maybe just the early ones.

Hey sixty niner, what do you like about the friedman over the EVH cab? I'm just curious because I have one of the EVH cabs. Thanks!

-I would research the FRIEDMAN CAB's material & construction...

-what kind of ply
-how thick is the ply
-are the baffle and back panel the same as top & back?

-check out Steve's cab in the emporium, 100% 3/4" ply

The Friedman cabs are superb, they sound great! The cabs are 100% multi-ply baltic birch, probably 15mm, the older models had a particle board back, but the current line has birch ply back.

Iv'e played through them and they sound fantastic, they can cover just about any style. Only thing, I don't think they come with casters.

It's the normal Greenback/V30 mix.

I think Steve Stevens mentioned in a video a while back that he had some one-off cabinets built with all V30's.

The one off cabs might have been the three purple 4x12's I built for him in 2010.

Those cabs are the 69 spec Marshall 4x12 with 1/2 blind dovetail joint
corners, extra baffle board bracing, 5/8 baltic birch (furniture grade/BB3)
plywood, plywood back panel.

He did put his old G12 Vintage and Vintage 30's in them, as far as I know.

Is there different spec for Marshall cabs over the years ???

SS cabs came with V30s
That changed about a year ago as they persuaded Steve to try the GB/V30 mix and he liked it
I prefer one or the other as the speakers have very different responses, GBs breaking up much earlier and having lower output. There are better partners for each speaker IMO
The cabs do not come with castor fittings, which is a cheapskate move and an oversight for such an expensive cab
For the same build quality and speaker mix, with castors, look to the Bogner Helios cab

We'll that's debatable. Orange does the same thing. The coupling direct to the floor sounds better in the lows, but not worth the back pain IMHO.

If I had to guess it's probably intended as a marketing advantage, if there are no casters included, the cabs will be setup in the music shop direct on the floor next to competing cabs that are on casters. The cabs on casters will have a low-end disadvantage.

Friedman does not do any cheapskate moves as far as I can tell. This is evident in his move to capacitors that cost up to 8x more than the previous caps in his current lineup. Pretty sure if he was trying to cut cost on a $10 (bulk cost) set of casters, he damn sure would have not increased his cost on producing his amp line. Especially giving the fact he already had a great sounding product before the cap upgrade.

Yes, the grill cloth changed, the wood changed (plywood on every piece up to late 70's then MDF/particle board internal pieces, back panel, etc) and the bracing became less robust as time went on.

I want a friedman cab to go with my amp, or a 4x12 with greenbacks and vintage 30s! anyone have an extra around the san fran bay area let me know!

You'll love that combo. I do the GB + v30 combo on most of my cabs, and have done it for many other people as well.
