Hey everyone,

I've been looking at the Fryette stuff for a while for a bit more of an open sounding, high gain head. The D60 II is available new (albeit I can't try one because I'm in Canada) but I could buy and return if needed. There is also a used Fryette Pittbull 50 CL. I was wondering if anyone had any insights on these or other alternatives outside of these two that are in the same camp.

They are both listed for pretty much the same price from the ones I'm looking at as well. Hard to get an idea of how much the used Pittbull's should go for.

I understand Steve Fryette is apparently working on some new models but unsure when / if these will come out in the next while.

Cheers,

They are quite different features wise tbh. What exactly do you need from the amp? I've had both and for straight up high gain metal, I prefer the D60. The 50CL will have a clean channel that is really solid if that's your thing.

I had a Pittbull Classic years ago. Loved it. Clean and articulate and it could really cut. I have the GP/DI and PS-2 now. While I love the Pittbull mode I actually gravitate towards the Deliverance mode. It’s big and bold. I like to use both modes on a track panned L/R.

Both are awesome amps and I happen to love the dry, less saturated sound and feel they have but it’s not for everyone.

Ultimately, your desired feature set will probably guide your decision.

A nice clean channel is a bonus. I mainly play anything from 80's (hard rock, thrash & hair metal, shred) up to stuff like Alice in Chains, Death, Pantera, Lamb of God

Would both of these cover that? The clean channel would just be added flexibility. Does it make sense that both of these are priced the same given the Pittbull is used?

Thanks,

I MUCH preferred the CL50 to the D60 series II. But I just didn't jive with the D60 II. CL50 is a great thrash/death metal, rock amp. Never play cleans so can't really speak to that. I've acquired an older D60 and it's amazing. The CLX is also amazing, similar to the CL50 but much more and deeper low end if desired. That CL50 with the rectifier tube sw engaged and boosted is such a great great tone and feel for thrash.

do you still have the CLX?

I have had both at the same time. I much prefer the d60. I sold the cl off pretty quickly (still have the d60) as I preferred to pair my 5150 with the d60 over pairing the cl with the d60. The cl was really nice but imo very few amps compete with the deliverance. 2 channels is nice but the d60 cleans up with the volume knob better than any amp I've tried.

Your D60 is a series I or II?

Just to follow up you just preferred the high gain voicing from the D60 over the CL? Would you briefly be able to tell me what the major differences were that edged out the D60 versus the other (better for the style of music you play etc.).

Thanks for your input I appreciate it

I love the deliverance. The cl was a wetter sound. It reminded me of a classier 5150 and sounded killer but ultimately wasnt what I wanted. Definitely not as "dry" or as huge sounding as the d60.

I'm more of a Pittbull series guy for my playing preferences. The D60 is one pissed off sounding amp though. Haven't played the MKII version though so can't compare to that. If you want a bit more versatility I would go with a Pit.

I have a cl50 and a d120, they are very different amps, both great at what they do. If you don’t need a lot of features look for a d120

Anyone have any idea of what they would pay for a used Pittbull CL 50? It has the graphic band EQ. I looked up the serial number with Fryette and it was made in 2010.

It is listed right now for about $2,750 US which seems a bit rich in my books - I think I saw one in the classifieds here go for sub-US$2,000 here a month or so ago but not sure what condition it was in.

$2750 for a CL? No way! CL's should be in the $1500-1800 range, depending on condition and such.

Thanks man - that sounds more appropriate to me as well. Makes sense why it has been sitting there for a year. I could buy the Deliverance D60 ii brand new for the same price.
