Just wondering has anybody realised the way Fryette wired for their FB412 or all their cabs are at 8ohms extreme right hand side of speakers are utilised only.... where only at 16ohms then utilises all 4 speakers ?

Wonder if this type of wiring has been " known for " among 412 cabs....?

I think Marshall stock 1960 wiring is the same, and that's the industry standard.

If you have four 16 ohm speakers there is no way to wire them to get 8ohms.

No, there's a switch that moves the cab from mono to stereo. And there's also 2 input jacks. These jacks, along with the mono-stereo switch dictate which input to use for what impedance. The cab is always using 4 speakers, and is not designed to be used down one side only by employing the stereo switch and using the wrong input jack.

Don't fuck up.

Well, one could do a hybrid of dual parallel wirings, but how that would terminate at the backpanel Fryette cab switch I have no idea

Yea - One of the versions of FB412 and then the D412 you could do stereo 8 each side or 16 mono (at s/p) and a switch for 4 ohm mono (parallel). I really liked the 4 ohm parallel setting. Everything seemed a bit tighter.

I have a older Deliverance 4x12. Switch for 8&8 stereo or 16 mono. No 4 ohm setting.

Hi PeteLaramee, thanks i think we are on track... i gotta 412 slanted FB cab with the usual speaker P50es... i sort of open up the speakers and i traced wirings to be parallel for 8ohms settings on the right handside of two speakers... and stereo 8ohms for another input....

I didnt know the parallel 4ohm thingy... and the switch only allows to switch between 16ohm to 8ohm...

But matters is.... how many of you guys prefer 8ohms or 16ohms settings ? With amp head matching thou... means 8ohm to 8ohms and 16ohms to 16ohms..

I believe this pic explains it well. This is the same panel/jack I had for two of my D412s and one of my FB412s

From the photo what input left or right is 4 ohms ?

Stephen, Input "A" with the stereo switch engaged makes it mono at 4ohms.

This is also the panel I have on my FB412. I believe the switch went bad though so I rewired it all (see another thread)

The 8 ohm side is used only when plugged into both jacks for stereo. Otherwise, don’t use it unless you want it to be a 212 cab in a 412 body

Yup thats the exact back panel on my VHT FB slanted 412 that i have.... so essentially a 412 operating like a 212 with more room inside the enclosure will sound better than a 212 ?

Thanks....seems so obvious looking at it again.

I've had to stare at that back panel so many times over the years going WTF
Then, it just appears - duh!! - it says right there.... FOLLOW THE LINE AND READ THE WORDS, MO!!

Anyway - as to the OP, I like all my amps/cabs to run 16ohm - some kinda OCD on my part - all the windings of the tranny getting put to use, whatever. 4ohm can be stiff, 8ohm is middle ground, 16ohm is full - but that alone is such a sweeping statement it's already rendered irrelevant given what few parameters I'm offering to base that observation on.

Need more coffee, then I'll be more chatty :student:

I always thought that 4ohm was using the full windings in the tranny

That was my understanding of 4 ohms also. The entire tranny is being used at 4 ohm.
