Basically, take the JJ 20 or 100, give it more gain, raw attack, thump, and cut, in a 50 watt mini head format.

This is a Dave Friedman modded 2016 Egnater 50w P2P Boutikit, hand-wired amp from Bruce's amp building class. I bought it from the original owner back in 2017 as a platform amp for modding. It comes in a 19x8x8" headshell, so it's very comfy and easy to transport.

I sat on modding the amp for 4 years while I had the BE50, BE100, Slax, and JJ100: I love them all, but the JJ100 was my favorite. So I sent this to Dave a few months back and asked him for a 1.5 Channel JJ50 that includes:
  • Friedman JJ BE channel with more gain
  • Friedman JBE channel with more gain.
    • Footswitchable (included as a single button)
  • Own master volume for JBE
  • EQ Switches/Knobs: 2 Way Voice, Fat/Tight, Gain Structure, C45
    • Voice is pretty subtle, but the others are very noticeable. I find the Treble knob is like a variable Voice knob, that makes up for it.
  • Thump and Response Knobs: ...Thump & Bass have great interaction and it has a punch I wasn't expecting, in a good way.
  • More raw, cutting, chainsaw-like if you want it to, or dial it back to be softer/darker (Treble knob on this is crazy variable)
  • The Friedman Transparent FX loop
  • The Friedman Master Volumes with excellent tapers
  • Cleans up well with guitar volume
  • Great plexi tones using Gain Structure to dial it back
  • Quiet as can be
I ran it as a 3 or 4 channel amp. EQ to taste, Gain at 1:00, Gain Structure on full gain:
  • Clean: using guitar volume and it's spanky and full
  • Rock/Dirty: Guitar volume full-on is rock (can boost this too for harder rock or early metal)
  • Hard Rock to 80s and 90s Metal: Footswtich to JBE with matching volume or more JBE volume for a solo boost.
  • Searing Stupid Metal: Boost the JBE if you want, but I never do.
I've got all the email back and forth from Dave if you want to see it for proof of the work he did

Some quick iPhone clips I did below (don't judge, I'm a hack) and I'll upload one or two more videos of raw in-room iPhone clips:

BE, JBE then Boost JBE, louder volumes: Metal

More wankery: Boosts, no boost, JBE full gain at 4:20, no boost, then BE full gain, no boost, C45, etc, etc, misspoke at 2:40: gain was at 2:00

Better playing with low to mid-gain tones

Sounds great! What Boost were you using?

I was using my Helix LT with the Teemah! boost. Off and on; I say when I was boosting & you can hear me switching on & off 4CM. Didn't use any other FX, but maybe should have. Loop is terrific. The master volumes are equally great; no neighbors complained. Can't say exactly the same for my Splawn, though I love it, too. But the MVs on the Friedman are best-in-class.

Cheers.
