Fulltone tape echo opinions please

So my buddy has an old Echoplex that I have always loved, and have borrowed it for recording. I have a Boss DD that I have to use live, but I don't like it nearly as much. Anywho, I've been really been looking at the Fulltone echo for a long time, but playing one locally has never been an option. My question is this.... Has anyone here tried, owned, or used one before? Are they the real deal, or will I end up just liking my Boss delay just as much, or?????? I really want something that will give me that real tape echo sound, and I'm not horribly fond of simulators. I will listen to, and appreciate any useful info/feedback. Thanks in advance!!!

the Fulltone TTE is really that good!
I own an original EP-3 that is fantastic, and never gave me any headache with maintenance. Matter of fact, it's the best echo I've heard in my life, including a real Echorec, Space Echo, EP2, Copicat, and a Univox(these were units I've owned).
I've decided then to get a TTE to have a tube and a solid state tape echo and didn't regret a bit.
In fact, when we were recording, the producer liked it so much that he used it on almost everything that needed echo. Including vocals!
Its well built, it sounds amazing, option for stereo and it looks freaking cool!
Downside? It's a lot bigger and heavier than a delay pedal.
Maintenance? The sound worth cleaning the heads and oiling the motor once in a while.
 
I'm sure they are killer, but if I were you, I'd just grab a Strymon El Capistan and a Badgerplex pre and be done with it. No hassles with tape and it is basically identical to what the Echoplex sounds like. And yes, I've owned a real Echoplex. You'll save cash, space, have less hassle and sound just as good...

I here ya, but the size doesn't bother me at all. I kinda like old school stuff for some reason. So most of it is because I like the tape echo sound, and the rest of it is because I think they are just cool. In all reality a dude could just get one of them there fancy pants digital thingymabobers, and not even drag a heavy tube amp and 4x12 cab around. The thing is, I refuse to do that, and still drag all my heavy/high maintanence crap around. ;) I mostly was just curious if the Fulltone captures the Echoplex "thing/vibe" properly. :rock:

Oh, and YOU'RE NOT ME!!!!!!!!!! If you were, you would be getting all kinds of strange tail, and you would be so cool that you wouldn't have a moment's peace due to everyone trying to worship you 24/7!! ;)

Did you do any research on the TTE ? It is basically a modern reproduction of the Echoplex.

There are a lot of clips of it, pretty convincing IMO, has the real tape and the labor headaches to go along with it.

At the pricepoint this thing goes for I wouldn't expect it to be a boat anchor...Fulltone stuff is known for being top notch.

Unless they have made more I believe it is not manufactured anymore, although you may be able to score one from a store that still has one.

EDIT: they have 18 available direct from Fulltone according to their site.

I researched it, but I have never had my hands on one. I just wanted to know if anyone here had.
 
Fulltone is a good sounding echo, but not as good as a real EP-2.

Best digital is Lexicon PCM 41/42, Chandler, and TC Electronic 2290.
 
I've had a TTE for a few years. I really like it. No issues.
 
My pal owns a guitar shop and gets bucketloads of vinbtage gear in. He has LOADS od old echoplex's and he recently had his first TTE in. Where did it go? Straight home with him and he aint sellin.
I haven't heard it but if he did that it sells it to me....
