I'm looking for a new fuzz pedal and I'm not sure what to get. I'd like something that has a lot of bass, but isn't as overwhelming as a Fuzzface and something that's clearer and more hi-fi sounding than a Muff. If the pedal had an octave effect, that would be a bonus. I'm not looking to spend more than $175. What are my options?

Blakemore Effects - deus ex machina fuzz
A tad over your budget but a worthy contender

Check out my avatar. I didn't spend much more than that for my the one in it and it is #299. It is about as good as you will get.

No, you look for a frazz dazzler.

No octave effect bonus but reaaly versatile and every sound you get out of it is usefull. And it sounds good no matter if you use a clean or a dirty amp.

I listened to all the reccomendations as well as some pedals my firends have turned me on to and I have a short list of them-

1) Earthquaker Devices Hoof
2) Barber Trifecta
3) Red Witch Fuzz God
4) Salvation Mods Vivider

The Salvation is kind of the oddball of the group and has a cool octave effect, but it might be a little too crunchy/ fuzzy for what I need. The barber, while versatile, seems to not have the best tone. The Fuzz God has some cool features and tones, but its at a higher price-point than I'm comfortable with. The Hoof just might be my ticket ans I keep coming back to it.Its half FF and Half Muff and has a cool eq.

you should check out the range of fuzz pedals that Matt from SUF - http://www.stompunderfoot.com makes! Stunning quality pedals at an affordable price. Have a chat with him, he will set you up with the perfect fuzz box for your needs! :) I have a Rams Head and a Pumpkin Pi and both are truly stellar!

Get yourself a Perscription Experience pedal. I has three switches. Fuzz, octave, and swell (reverse effect).
This is one of my favorites.

If you want a lot of bass you might want to check this pedal out .... the clip is not very good. I really like this pedal...

What about the Graphic Fuzz by Electro Harmonix? It has a graphic equaliser so you can easily control any amount of bass as well as mids and treble you want in the sound. Make it scooped and stingy, make it squawk, make it soar, anything.

If you can't find a new one in your budget- then go secondhand.

Zvex

Can't believe I'm the first to say that.

I have a Mastotron, which is their Vexter series, and it is awesome for guitar and bass. It will give you the tight fat fuzz you seek, and in your price range. Guitar Center sells them. You can thank me later.
