Hey fellow Rig-Talkers. My name is Rich and I'm from Alloy Musical Products in New Jersey, developers of FX Dex. I met a few of you, including forum owner Brad King, this weekend at NAMM 2011. It was a pleasure meeting all of you and present you with my product. I was also fortunate enough to meet with and present my product to 311's Tim Mahoney, Fear Factory's Dino Cazares, The Neon Trees, Beck/Nine In Nails' Brian Mendall-Johnson, Guitar Hero artist Doug Doppler, Fretted Americana's Phil X, guitar guru Dave Friedman, Voodoo Amps' Trace Davis, and countless other artists. I'm very pleased to say that everyone showed great interest in FX Dex and they will be incorporated into the pedalboard setups of many.

Without further adieu, I present FX Dex to all of you:

We all know of the uneven and irregular surfaces on the bottoms of effects pedals and the problem they cause when securing them to our ever-evolving pedalboards with Velcro®. The Velcro® adhesive eventually weakens and lets go of our expensive pedals at the most inopportune times. FX Dex are the ultimate solution to your effects pedalboard mounting woes.

The FX Dex advantage:

* Precision CNC machined from solid 6061 aircraft aluminum alloy
* Clear anodized, increasing corrosion and wear resistance as well as providing a perfectly flat and optimal Velcro® adhesion surface
* Provides shielding and helps reduce unwanted noise
* Dimensionally identical to your stock base plate
* Lighter than your stock base plate (FX Dex BP-1)
* Allows for preserving the original back plate and label on collectible pedals
* Developed and made in the USA by fellow guitar nerds

FX Dex BP-1 models will fit all Boss® effects pedals housed in the classic 4-3/4"x2-1/2" casing, including the older models with notches. (Please specify which model you have)
FX Dex WP-1 models will fit Dunlop Crybaby and Vox V847 sized wah housings

Welcome Rich, I like the idea alot but would love to see a product with some kind of tab on it to screw the stompbox directly to my PBoard. I know that alot of people are constantly moving stuff around or swapping out but Im not one of them and I hate Velcro.

I need that wah backing plate!

Welcome and thanks for posting, cool idea :)

Hey Kage! Thanks for posting and the feedback.

I envy you for having a pedalboard with a consistent setup of pedals as I'm always swapping pedals out for different gig needs and overall tone-searching! Any particular reason you dislike Velcro?

In your situation I would recommend using the links from a bicycle/motorcycle chain. You remove the screw from your pedal, attach the chain link to the pedal using the screw, then drill your pedalboard and screw the link part to the pedalboard. I've seen this method done before but it does fill your pedalboard with unsightly holes.

The link is the bottom item in the photo below:

No matter what velcro I use, It never fails that the backing comes off of the pedal or the board. Its not like my board is getting tossed all over the place but some of the heavier pedals just dont stay where they are supposed to. Ive seen the Chain links, Ill have to give that whirl...

I can't speak for the pedalboards as I don't produce them, but as far as the FX Dex are concerned I will say that the aluminum surface, which is milled perfectly flat within .001", and the anodized plating provide for an insanely optimal surface for the Velcro's adhesive side. Apply the Velcro, give the adhesive a bit of time to bond to the FX Dex surface, and you'll have an extremely tough time pulling them apart. The amount of pulling force you'll use to try to separate the two is exponentially greater then the amount of pulling force which Velcro or Dual Lock will ever put on FX Dex.

"Velcro free zone"-- sounds like an anti- S&M slogan.  I don't know what's wrong with me. lol.... no caffeine yet

I screwed the 3M to the bottom of my wah, after having removed the rubber feet

The problem with that method is that the heads of the screws protrude from the backplate making the effective Velcro surface minimal as the screws prevent it from fully engaging. The screw mounting points on FX Dex are countersunk below the surface and allow the entire surface of the plate to be used effectively.

Not in my case, I literally have to pry this thing off w/ a screwdriver to get it to come off--but thanks for the reply-- as it may be useful for others. ;)

By the way, Love the look of your product.

The screws are my issue regarding my Dunlop wah, you cannot countersink them so I am getting minimal contact. Plus I use a pedal train so I only have so much area to get good contact.

I use a Pedaltrain as well and this same issue led me to developing FX Dex. You're not limited to an area where you can put your Velcro or Dual Lock. The entire surface of an FX Dex is usable.

Yeah I can see that working but like I said, Im going for the hardwired approach...

With all due respect to Rich and his company, its a cool idea but at 20 bucks a pedal(25 for wah) Its prohibitively expensive IMO. I can see some people justifying that expense in some case but not me. I just dont really see any of the benefits really worth it but thats just me and its all good, just my .02

Thanks again for your input, Kage. I respect it and will take it into consideration.

Having said that, there are some products out there which are like FX Dex and priced very similarly to FX Dex but are inferior to FX Dex in every way.

I understand Rich. Im just speaking for myself and my own needs and uses. The Chain Link approach takes care of me and my needs perfectly.

Hey guys, just wanted to chime in and vouch for Lublin (Rich). He's a great, great friend of mine, not to mention the bassist in my band. I'm super excited to be partnering with him on this FX-Dex production, and we're constantly thinking of new practical products for guitar players.

His work with metals is incredible. He's got an eye for detail that's just insane, and when you see the FX Dex in person, you'll see what I mean. The Wah plate is just insanely awesome. I can't wait to throw one on my wah.

Bottom line: these things are over-engineered, precision-made, and built for the road.

There's a million different ways to skin a cat, for sure. And of course, over time, people have thought of some other really clever ways to attach pedals to boards. But we wanted to create this product for the die-hard velcro user, who is sick of the velcro adhesive coming off of the crappy rubber base.

It's also good for the older boss pedals, like the CE2 Chorus, which has had many different models (green label, black label, etc). Lots of times, if people are paying $150+ for a vintage CE2 Green Label, they want to see that green label. This lets you use velcro on that pedal, and keep the original backplate safe.

Do you make backing for MXR pedals? I have no need for Boss pedals...
Bump since my question may have been missed. :)
Hey Dave! They're in the works. Which model are you looking for specifically? I'll make that my priority.
