Hello everybody,

I would like your help with the routing of some fx I would like to use in parallel with my rig.

So far, I am using my JVM410H/1960 as my main amp and on its serial loop I have an Eventide Timefactor delay and a TC Hall of fame reverb in series (delay into reverb) and sometimes I feed the right output of the pedals into the loop of a Marshall TSL60 for stereo sound.

I made some tests (especially with the reverb pedal) and found that I prefer the sound of the rig by using the killdry switch and using the loop in parallel form as it retains more raw sound and still the effects are pristine and perfect sounding.

The thing is that in order to have both (and eventually a modfactor or strymon mobious as well for modulation that I plan to buy soon) in killdry mode I have to run then in parallel with its other so that to be able to switch one out easily without affecting the other etc.

I made some research and found that I need a splitter/mixer that will do the job properly. The thing is that I would like also to be able to still use the stereo form of the pedals so that splitter would either have to be stereo or buy 2 mono ones.

And here is where I need your help, to suggest one that can handle the above demands and if possible not be very expensive.

I have seen one Art Splitmix 4 which is about 50 euros here in Greece, I guess I will need two of them and a Behringer rack one MX882 (although reading its manual I couldn’t figure out if it can do what I want) for about 90 euros.

Below is a rig diagram as how I imagined the fx must be connected, feel free to make any suggestions to improve it.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Hi Steve,

Running things in parallel can get quite complex.

I notice that you have all three effects units in parallel.

If you throw in a fourth effect device, you can get some pretty cool effects by combining series AND parallel, where one mix feeds a second mix. Check out Zachman's rig where he had a similar setup of a parallel mix of a stereo chorus (TC1210) and a stereo delay (TC2290), serially feed a parallel mix of a harmoniser (Eventide) and a stereo reverb (PCM80).

I say "had" because he's likely changed that a bit by adding in a tri-stereo chorus unit. ;)

I think a simple solution is this:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JVM Effects Send -> Input of Modfactor

Left Output of ModFactor -> Left Input of TimeFactor -> Left Output of TimeFactor -> JVM Effects Return

Right Output of ModFactor -> Left Input of Reverb -> Left Output of Reverb -> TSL Effects Return
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A second solution is:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JVM Effects Send -> Left Input of ModFactor

Left Output ModFactor -> Left Input TimeFactor -> Left Output TimeFactor -> Left Input Reverb -> Left Output Reverb -> JVM Effects Return

Right Output ModFactor -> Right Input TimeFactor -> Right Output TimeFactor -> Right Input Reverb -> Right Output Reverb -> JVM Effects Return.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For splitting and running effects parallel in my rig I use a RJM Mini Effects Gizmo for the splitting and the RJM Mini Line Mixer for summing, couldn't be happier with them.

Your diagram is more complicated than it needs to be, there's no reason to use the stereo inputs on your effects.
You need a spitter with 4 outs. I for dry, and 3 for the effects.

Thank you for your answers!

Yes i realized that a bit later that no need for stereo inputs in the pedals, so you are correct the diagram is wrong!

I was introduced yesterday to a very skillfull and knowledgable amp and fx technician that had one (actually he had 3) very high quality and custom designed by him 4 channel splitter and 4 stereo mixer in one single rack unit, and he sold me one for a very friendly price, so now i have what i need to finalize my rig! :)

Thank you again for your suggestions! :)

At the moment, I'm still waiting on the strymon mobius to come out so that to decide between it and the modfactor on which will be my multi modulation pedal and complete my rig, as my TC nova modulator has no kill dry or mix control (or at least i have not found one, if one knows anything feel free) and in series it has the nasty effect of cutting bass and adding brightness (same as the nova delay which i also have) no matter the pedal calibration, which is a shame as the fx are actually quite good (chorus and flanger).

of course I'm also open to suggestions on a multi modulation fx unit in either pedal or rack form with quality sounds chorus and flanger (in eventide/strymon fashion) beyond the 2 above! (my nameday is coming on monday and i'm loonking to make me a present...  ) :)

The switcher/mixer does its intended job with minimal coloration to the sound, now it has timefactor and Hof in parallel which keeps the dry sound more defined than before (especially with the HOF which is my newest pedal and still have not found the best setting to use with 80s kind of gain), so it was worth the trouble going to parallel fx routing setup.
