I've been using the g major in the effects loop of my amp and I like the effects and how transparent it is. It is kind of useless live though because it takes too long to switch presets (especially phaser or tremolo). I emailed tc and they said they are working on a fix for the g major 2 but arent promising anything.

Are there any good alternatives to the g major that work better live? I mostly use reverb, delay, phaser, tremolo, pitch shifting, and harmonies.

the g major 2 has no switching lag and is very transparent.

Have you tried the tc nova? If you're just looking for fx and don't need channel switching capabilities, it's a cool unit.

g major 2. When I contacted tc they told me the g major 2 has the same issue. I've never actually tried one though.

tc nova. Looks cool. I wouldn't be using any of the overdrive/distortion stuff though. I was hoping to use a rack unit. I'm guessing this could be controlled by a ground control pro.

Any other suggestions?

I've heard good things about the Intellifex, though I have no personal experience with it. Personally I've never had issues with G-Major as far as switching time goes, and I'd still be using it if I didn't buy the Axe-FX.

Prior to my Axe-FX, I used a combo of an Intellifex and a Replifex (primarily for the phaser)...they have no lag when switching and still sound great after all these years (got the Int in '92 and the Rep in '96).

I just sold my Axe FX and got an M13, the board is used to switch amp via midi and effects at the same time. The FX sound great and there is no lag. Not the most sophisticated unit out there, but huge arrays of great tones and fun guaranteed!

They have a software glitch that causes the unit to lag when switching from a patch with the phaser engaged that also using a certain routing. off of the top of my head I cant remember which routing it was. it was as easy as switching the routing to another but I don't use phaser at all and if I did I wouldn't want it in the loop anyway.

other than that I have never had a lag personally. I would get rid of it in an instant if it did.

TC has been quoted saying they are working on the issue and will release an update if/when they sort it out.
